I'm trying to remove my power steering control valve to rebuild the stock leaking one (or, more likely, replace it after much cursing and fumbling). I'm having a really hard time separating the valve from the pitman arm. I also don't see how it is even possible without removing the arm, is that going to be necessary?

I was looking at this video, which made it seem like I could separate the pscv from the arm without doing anything to the arm itself... (about 4:20 in the video)

Go to ZIP corvette web site View C3 , then click on technical articles, c3 There is a step by step instruction on how to. Youwill need a pickle fork to separate the "ball joints " in the steering linkages. I bought a cheapie at sears or harbor freight . Auto zone lends out tools and may have one you can use . Big Al

Thanks Al, that site is awesome, had not seen it before.

It sounds like I'm doing the right thing, just need a bigger hammer on the pickle fork.

FYI, rebuilding the PSCV is not that hard.  I did it with a kit and no prior knowledge and it turned out fine, no leaks and steers great.  The kits come with decent instructions (follow them to a "T") but if I remember there were one or two gaps in those instructions where I was left asking "huh?", but I did find answers to those questions on YouTube, amazingly enough.  To answer your question on how to remove it, I ended up taking out the entire steering system, with the exception of the column.  I can't remember what I separated on the car vs on the bench, but Big Al is correct, pickle fork or similar is definitely necessary.

Yup...don't be askeered.....

LOL

Make sure, if yer using a pickle fork, that the opening in it is large enough to fit around the stud....if the opening is too small, you'll wind up putting a ding/gouge on the stud, and then you'll have a hard time getting it all back together. Thumbs Up

Yup. Swapped out the dead-blow for a 1k sledge and it came free in no time. Pieces are in the ultrasonic washer and seal/boot rebuild kit is in the mail :)
