When I put the 74 away last winter I noticed the brakes were getting spongy. Then in the spring when I finally got it running the pedal went to the floor at first but after driving it around the block the brakes were ok if you pumped them up before stops so I ordered 4 calipers and master cylinder in april. Ive been putting it off until Tuesday night when I finally decided it was time to make the change over. I did a system flush going from dot 3 to silicone dot 5. My first step in this was to replace the master cylinder. Once the cylinder was on and bled (on the bench first) then I removed the rear calipers and just let fluid run through until the new fluid came out the back lines. Then I ran 2 more reservoirs of fluid through and then installed the rear calipers, lines and rear hoses. opened the bleeders and let it gravity bleed. It took about 10 minutes until the calipers started to gravity bleed. Once the lines were solid fluid I went to the front and removed the front hoses and calipers and let them bleed till the new fluid came through. Them 2 more reservoirs of fluid then installed the new hoses and calipers. Let them gravity bleed as well. Close all bleeders then had a friend pump the brakes to bleed them a last time. Took about 2 1/2 hours and the brakes are great. Well at least for manual brakes!! now I will feel better about driving to Ocean City in 2 weeks!

Brakes on the Pace car seemed to pull a little. Found one front caliper leaking and the other looks to a little croaded around the seals so it will probably go next. Maybe I'll just do the entire system. Looks like it worked out well for you.
Is Dot 5 the way to go if you change everything?

Yes dot 5 is the way to go! Rodney has a race car! I used dot 3..I don't really care..I flush this thing all the time..keep it clean and whatever you use will work fine..glad to hear the 74 is getting done..now what about that 200????

Rich
I decided that the 2004r will be put into the 72 sometime this fall / winter along with a prettier motor. I guess motors arent to be pretty so lets say dressed out motor! with some extras. I am spending my retirement early and let the state care for me once i reach that age! LOL

Sounds like a good idea putting the 200 in the 72, I thought that it had the original motor in it..replace it or rebuild ..I guess that's the next question..oh its funny that your dad is spending your inheritance and your spending your retirement!! Oh well at least you look good while your doing it!
