I have tried everything to solve the sticky steering wheel problem on my 72. I've tried all kinds of cleaners and degreasers and have found nothing to solve the problem....until today...OK don't laugh but I stopped in O'Reilly's today and bought one of the old leather like Steering Wheel Wraps. I brought it home and my wife laughed at me. I put it on and it really looks pretty good and it feels a heck of a lot better than my old sticky Steering Wheel. Maybe one of these days I'll spring for a new one but for now, This is pretty good.Big smile

Lonnie, I have found Zaino leather cleaner and finish to work real well, the leather finish has some kind of cow juice in it to make the leather smell like leather again. I do wear those throw away surgical gloves when using it as it seems to irratate my hands.

But it's the cats meow the cows moo for leather.Evil Smile

I wish I had a leather wheel...in 72 they had the old skinny rubber wheels,as they age they break down and get sticky. I have thought about buying a leather one, about a $100.00 in most catalogs.

Wearing driving gloves will help keep the wheel from getting any worse, as well as keep the funk off your hands.
The oils in our hands cause some of the deterioration of the material the wheels are made from. Add years of sun/heat/cold exposure, the stuff just basically disintegrates...
Driving gloves are the best...
Of course, putting on a cover works well, too.

That's the 1st thing I would have thought of. There are several cover options on the market these days and I like the feeling of a fatter wheel to grip. There is a style available from Corvette America (I think) for about $40 and it looks pretty good if you don't mind pulling the wheel off to stitch it on, and limited color options. I've used it on the 2 '78s (well, they want $225 for a new one Ouch) they look fine for now.

wheelskins.com ...they have a pretty good web site, lots of differant colors and even two-tone. This could be the best solution for the Sticky Wheel. Thanks.http://wheelskins.com
