Confused I cleaned and painted all of my wheels. On two of them just inside the outer lip near the bead, on inside and outside of wheel, some one has drilled 8  3/16 holes. The holes do not affect the air holding ability and are somewhat exposed after the tire is mounted. They are GM facory wheels as far as I know. They are 15x8, and have a JJ code and stamped GM. Stamped both inside on center and outside near the valve stem. THANKS

Holy Cow Batman!

I know here at work when we need to remove weight for inbalance on our Aircraft Driveshafts they some times drill holes.
Other options are to mill or grind off material.
My uneducated guess would be it's a balance removal.

Hmmm, 2 wheels only, 8 holes ea - sounds like someone was trying to hold a tire / slick on those wheels to me.

I agree with Dennis, sounds like screw holes for drag slicks to me.  I did that many years ago with my 57 Chevy.

They would have to be tapped holes for that, right?

Ding Ding Ding!!! We have a WINNAH!!! Thumbs Up Clap
Yup...holes were drilled, and sheet metal screws would have been screwed into the bead of the tire to help hold the bead tight on the rim. This is done when running really low air pressure in slicks....without them, one good high rpm burnout would suck the beads of the tires right off of the rim. It also helps keep the tires from spinning on the rims...
It's an old trick, and still used today, tho the screws have gotten better....LOL
If ya wanna make the rims look a little less goofy, just get some short sheet metal screws and screw them in. That way, it's not just a bunch of empty holes in the rims. Plus...you'll get lotsa questions about why they are there...and you can tell them it's to keep the tire from spinning in the rims when you blast off....LOL

Then again....are these steel Rally rims? If they are, then the trim rings will cover the holes anyway....

Cool My low horsepower (165) 75' could indeed be a sleeper.LOL Maybe wheels are from some B.B. supercar!  Well as of now they are just wheels with new tires on them. Did not think of some of the possibilities you suggested. THANKS! The trim rings WILL cover the holes and no screws will occupy the holes. I'll NEVER spin them in the road, let alone spin them inside the wheel.Wink   Preciate the input.

Mine are machined in and not some week-end driller with slicks in mind. Very symetrical and VERY well placed. No variance in spacing. Not tapped either. I plan to have the ride at Carlisle if someone wants to peek.

Thumbs Down  Can't do pics. I'm fortunate to be able to have access to the site here at work station. Maybe some one at Carlisle can shoot them and do the sending.
