Thank you for the welcome! Sorry guys, for the HUGE paint tag pic. Don't know how that happened... I will call Eckler's and see if they renamed 425 Dark Red to Oxblood. Although, a simple Google Image searcg shows Oxblood being no where near the color of my interior. I will also continue to search other vendors for 425 Dark Red. Thanks!

Thank you! She photographs well. There are quite a few imperfections outside and in. I think where ever she was stored had a window that allowed sunlight to constantly beat on her back driver's side area above thee wheel well and by thhe luggage rack. Lots of orange peel in that area :( Inside, interior needs to be replaced. I would have LOVED to tend the Appleton WI event....but I do not have plates yet. Collector plates take FOREVER! Well maybe 1.5 months total but seemingly forever when it's your first classic Vette. I'm climbing the walls over here!

I did see just "red" on Corvette America, but not Dark Red. I will check the other site you mentioned then start making calls. Driving the lake front here is great! Scenic, no traffic and lots of classics in the summer. Took my daughter to the lake this afternoon. She really wanted to drive in Red Velvet (she named the C3 that) but doesn't understand the concept of going to jail for driving without plates. I don't know who wants them to come in more, me or her!

 Most places that sell interior parts will send you a sample of the material used, for color comparison. Be aware tho....original upholstery and carpeting WILL fade over time, so what you have now may not be the same color it was originally anyway.

Welcome! I have a '72 Mille Miglia with red interior. BEWARE!!!! Don't ask me how I know. For me, RED is correct for the interior. Any variation sucks. Make sure it's red. Not dark red, not maroon, not blood red, not torch red. Just RED. Smile... (At least that's the way it is on my 72)

My '75 also has the Dark Red vinyl interior and Oxblood is the colour I've always ordered for interior parts. It matches. Dark Red vinyl came on '73 to '75 vettes. The '72 red is much brighter.

Indeed. The '72 is very bright. That's why it's so important to pay attention to this. Chevy monkeyed with the interior a lot during those years.

I just ordered / received leather seat covers from Bair's (they resell for lower price Corvette America covers) and they are beautiful and match darn near exact. I have 72 blue and like you there are numerous names and versions of blue used in these cars. I pulled the back off the drivers seat and clipped a piece of preserved vinyl for color matching. I sent it to them for matching. On the floor mats I had an ACC dealer from ebay send me carpet samples. Here is their website AutoMatStore.com. On ebay they don't tell you its ACC brand mats. It is the least expensive ACC mats I have found.

I have the ACC mats and carpeting in Oxblood and it was a good match.

I used to be an ACC dealer. I still have the sample catalogs at the house somewhere. Only good for carpeting, tho, not seat covers.

I got new seat belts. Unfortunately the web stops don't match the bright red interior. And apparently the proper stops don't exist. Sad...

Thank you very much for the information! I will investigate this weekend. So I understand, you wrapped your vinyl seats with leather covers? When I think of seat covers, I think of stuff you buy in auto stores: never quite fitting right, getting bunched up as you get in and out of the car, wear out easily. I'm assuming this is not the case with leather covers but can you explain how exactly you wrapped your seats? Are you happy with the outcome?

These are NOT your mother's K-Mart seat covers. You attach them with hog rings. You stretch them like crazy. You powder the corners so the foam won't tear. You align and realign. It's a lot of work but they look original.

Ya the nomenclature would have you believed exactly what you said. The product is all new upholstery. You remove the hog wires, clips etc....break em all the way down to bare frames. I purchased new foam since my seats allow your butt to ride on the frame. I figure I'll be stting a couple inches higher when I have finished. I have yet to attack the seats. Will pull em out over the weekend and start the refurb next week.

Best of luck to you. This was my first step in the restoration. I'm very proud of how it's worked out. More expensive and harder work than I expected. But there is a lot of pride in it too.

Wow! The seats look beautiful!! Certainly something to be proud of! Did you need and special tools to break them down completly? Please tell me, where did you get the covers and what color did you go with? They look, from the pics anyway, very similar to my 425 Drk Red Vinyl, which I'm having a tough time finding.

I got mine at Willcox. Part #421330. They are just red. The only red available for a 72. Willcox had a 20% off sale. Al Knoch makes the best though. I would use them next time. Willcox covers come from Corvette America and they're fine. Special tools. Hog ring pliers. Seat cover clip installation tool. Nothing else that's special. Hair drier or heat gun. Socket set. Wire brush and rust inhibiting paint for the frame. You will likely find rust. Por-15 or similar to repaint the frame. Spray on glue to finish the foam install. And baby powder to slide covers over the foam.

Hint: the seat cover clips (those attach the covers to the frame through the foam) suck. I don't see how they can hold up over time. My originals used chains of hog rings. Ultimately I duplicated those chains with new hog rings. You can use the clips as a guide for length. Once you get into the job you'll see why the seat cover clips are so bad. They're thin and stiff. Prone to breaking or coming loose. Hog ring chains are flexible and tough. You can also buy chain, cut to size, and attach hog rings at each end to attach to seat and frame.

I used the cheap hog ring pliers. They're bad but they work...barely. If i do it again I'll buy better pliers. The main thing is to take your time and be patient. It's sure to cause you to use a very colorful vocabulary. The first seat takes forever. Take pictures as you disassemble. I didn't and it added a few hours to the job. Be meticulous. If you do, people will ask you where you got the covers done. Trust me on this one!

IMPORTANT: watch the Corvette America instructional videos over and over again. They're online. Toss the written instructions. I hold a Ph.D. and I am completely unable to decipher the written instructions. I have no idea how you could do it right by reading those things.

I really appreciate the tips and instruction! I will search and price covers while deciding if this is a good project for me. I will also look for the how to vids on corvette America. That should give me a good idea if this is something I can handle. Thanks again!

Thank you for the welcome! Great looking 73! How do you like the red with saddle interior? I see from your description that you're running the dual fans. How is that working out for you? Did you have over heating issues? A friend of mine has a 78 that is constantly overheating. Thankfully mine has not, but someone suggested I replace factory fan with the duals. Not sure I'm ready for that though.

Yes, it's very satisfying to do the work yourself.  I've done most of the work myself, but I also farmed out some items that I just didn't want to do; like trailing arms and rear end rebuild.

1973 BB 4-Speed Coupe Project Car

Same for me. Ball joints, upper and lower control arm bushings and trailing arm bushings. All farmed out and the car is on the hoist right now. I did clean up the front end and rear end undercarriage while its on the hoist. Por-15 front to rear!
