If anybody has any idea on how to remove the center console on a 1972 corvette,the rear section with the emergency brake and window controls, I sure would appreciate it. I have removed the two screws on either side of the console and can not see any other screws that might be holding it in place. The front part of the console raises up but in the back, it is almost like it is still being held with screws or something. I have pulled pretty hard on it and it just want budge. Are there hidden screws somewhere or maybe a snap latch. I need to get the back part of my carpet out from behind my seats, and cannot do it withour removing this part of the console. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Jimmie |sad|

There's a bolt that goes through the rear interior bulkhead. You can only get at it by reaching through one of the compartment openings. I've a 3 door compartment and the middle one I haven't figured out how to get out yet, but I can reach the nut from the passenger side compartment. It's a small one, like 1/2 inch or less if I remember correctly.

Jim;
Thanks, you saved me a lot of time and misery. I would have probably ended up just ripping the thing out. The bolt was exactly where you said it was. I also have 3 compartments in the back, and I accessed it through the middle one. To get the middle compartment box out that you mentioned, you have to remove all the screws that hold the outer rim that goes around all three compartments. Once you have all the screws out just lift the rim out then you can remove the center compartment box to get to the screw. Be careful when lifting it out, as it comes out with all the doors attacted and the rim is fragile, you might break it if you don't handle it just right. On the battery box some of the screws are hiding under the rubber gasked that seals the battery compartment, so don't forget those. Thanks again Jim, you saved me a lot of time and heartache. This forum has been great. Jimmie McGallion |smile|

you can remove the rear console bolt much easier if you remove the bin in the right storage compartment that covers the jack. this bin just sits in . no need to remove any screws. once this bin is lifted out you can reach the bolt that you need to remove the console. |thumb|

I waited 3 months after purchasing a new cover to attempt installing it. After seeing these posts I decided it was time. Luckily someone had not replaced the rear bolt when they installed new carpet before I bought the car. I decided I would replace the bolt after installing the new cover. It is a 1/4 x 1inch bolt with SAE threads. After about 15 minutes I put the bolt back in the bin and decided it was not necessary.

Forgot to mention it is accessible from the right side bin after removing the bin.

If you guys don't have an assembly manual (AIM) for your year, you should get one.  It shows how stuff like that goes together.
