Just an update to what worked for me. My 82 had a little different combonation to remove the lock. Opening the glove box door, I pulled the latch down to lock, insert the key and rotated to the 12 o'clock position, removed key and the siver tap was is the front bottom of the barrel not in the right slot, pushing in the tap and down; while holding the tap in, inserted key, revoved the paper clip and the part seperated. With the lock now out, I removed the nut holding the barrel to the door to remove. To instal, I placed a small plier into the nut to tighten, with the key in the lock, placed it into the barrel to seat while holding down the latch and removed the key. With that, the tap pops back out, finished! I believe you can do this process without first locking the latch because the tap was visible in the right slot, but this didn't push in at that position.
Hope this may help others that needs to remove the lock from barrel.
Gudo's to the CF's!
