Now that I have your attention , I am currently trying to strip and repaint all of the chrome parts on my doors.  I have had good luck getting the paint off of most of the parts except the door lock trim plate. 

It had been re-painted at one point, and the newer paint has come off, but the original paint is very stubborn.  I have tried scratching it off with my fingernail, and that worked to a degree, but I want to totally strip this.  I am currently using a generic gel stripper that I got at Ace Hardware.

Can anyone recommend a readily available stripper I could buy at home depot or somewhere similar?

F40 Motorsports (the shop on Chasing Classic Cars on Discovery channel) is about 15 minutes away, I'm sure they have one.  I don't know if they would bother with 2 door lock trims though. 

Either way, I'm just looking for something I can do myself.  The stripper I am using has worked on every other part except the door lock trim panels.

I remember seeing a very small soda blast gun that you could put a cup full at a time in it and shoot your parts with. I cant find it right now but there was an article that talked about cleaning carbs with it. Soda blasting is very kind to chrome so it would work great. I plan on doing mine soon so if you cant find someone to do it for you I would be happy to give them a try for you. Another thing I used to strip paint from some of my parts was a product called Naked Gun cleaner. It can be bought at a paint supplier. I comes in a gallon for about 40 bucks. It didnt harm any of my chrome but I would only let the parts in for about 2 minutes then check them and if needed soak a while longer.

Wow I wish I had that time for that detail... Just curious what do you use to re-paint them chrome, I have no luck with that would look like cheap chrome??? I just want to get my windows lined up and rims polished so good luck . Will be anxious to hear what you paint it with and how they look?  BB78

I use aircraft stripper from local parts stores and it took all my interior paint right off. Also when repainting make sure to apply a adhesion promoter or the new stuff will flake quickly.

I know a good stripper!  She posed for photos with my Corvette as a favor once.  No...don't ask...can't post them here!

Lacquer thinner should do it. Ask Mama if you can "borrow" some of her nail polish remover...
Soaking in lacquer thinner, and the use of a fine(00) steel wool oughta get that paint off.
Another idea is Easy Off oven cleaner, but you can't spray it directly on the part safely. You need a container with a lid large enough to hold the parts, and some kind of shelf inside to keep the parts suspended. Spray the Easy Off libreally on the bottom of the container, then place the parts on the shelf, and install the lid for the container. Let that simmer for about 20 minutes or so. Rinse and repeat as needed. It might be best to practice on a non-essential chrome piece first, to make sure it doesn't dis-color it.
Lacquer thinner is the better choice, imo.

Ive used a product called TalStrip from the local parts store.  Its "aircraft stripper" as   mengelstad mentioned above with good restults BUT...use gloves, it will burn like the devil if you get it on your skin.

I'm not actually painting them chrome.  I am using a stripper that only takes off the black accent paint, then I am repainting them with semi-gloss black Krylon.  It matches what used to be there pretty well, and the new paint makes all the chrome parts look like new (with a few dings)

I know a good stripper (I married her !!!)  The best is lacquer thinner it doesn't need to be neuwturalized afterwards
