For those who might remember I was in the hunt last year for a paint job.  Well it was completed in Oct of 2014 finally. Well the car has sat since then until now when maybe in PA we will get some nice weather and I have time to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, not an easy trick with Dimensia???   but anyway I have a lot of the car torn down for the painting since no one wanted to do the dirty work and since I am there and a new paint job I decided to put in new carpet. we will see how that goes but I also had a dash pad that was cracked and I lived with a cover/patch on it for years but since I am putting new stuff back on I better do the dash while I'm here.

So here is the dumb question?

Will it help that much if I remove the windshield????? I have heard that dash are hard to get in and fit and you do not want to crack a new dash. I have already had the old dash out and tried to put two pieces of a dash back in and mend it together but that did not work but with two pieces it was a lot easier to get in.  You really only have a very small piece going around the center console but you do not want to bend or rip or tear it there?

The front windshield is a new glass when they put it in when I bought the car several years ago. I would have someone come and pull it out then when I get the dash in put it back on.

My only concern is when they put the new window in last time and they tried to put the original windshield wiper blades back on they rubbed against the hood????? so they put on low profile wipers that clear now.  But my concern is the windshield was never fully seated correctly but works fine with no leaks so not sure I want to deal with another issue if it works ok now.

So anyone who has put in a new dash recently can you shed some light on what the best way to go about it And I guess while the dash is out that would be a good time to do the front carpet so I can get to the firewall?

Thanks sorry so long....

Removing the windershield will not do you any good, and will prolly create new problems that you don't currently have. The dash will go in just fine if you have the side trim moldings off from the left/right pillars. A new dash will be a little more flexible than a 30 year old piece of plastic, so careful bending will not damage it. It's better if the dash is warm, and not icy cold, so you may want to have it inside the house for a day or so to keep it warm, or, if the weather's nice, you can put it out in the sun for a while to warm it. Best advice is to just take your time, and be patient. You can do it! Thumbs Up
