I am trying to figure out the proper way to remove this screw so I can use it on my new glass. I realize there are two flat spots on the bolt but they are covered with the plastic washer so unable to get a wrench on them for turning it lose. So there has to be another way besides breaking the glass which I don't want to do but its not worth anything anyway?? I have tried to claw wrench the metal washer and back it off but its probably been there for 45 yrs. Any info on the correct way would be helpful. Believe it or not the CAR IS CURRENTLY BEING PAINTED!

I wish I had an definite answer. But if I was in your predicament, I would stop by my local auto glass shop to see if they could muscle it apart. Maybe they have a special tool for that???

Hmmm....doesn't the end with the nylon roller on it have a phillips head screw type end of the bolt?? Seems the one's I've done did have. Large phillips screwdriver, and small pipe wrench on the washer side works for me....unless I'm missing something. Some of those washers also have two holes in them for pin-wrenches, but I don't see holes in that one. Really shouldn't be all that tight anyway...soak it down for a day or so and try again...?

You can see the two holes here. There is a "special" socket for them, but a pipe wrench, channel locks(like these), or 90* snap-ring pliers will work just as well....

Sorry for the delay, and I agree the pipe wrench should have been able to grab the washer shown and remove but mine was real tight even after soaking . So long story short I took the glass and screw to basement and put screw end in the workbench vise and turned the whole door glass around to unscrew the screw and bolt washer. Maybe not right but it worked great! Thanks for all imput's. BB 78
