Just got a load of stuff in today to restore my seats...new covers, foam, etc. I also got new screws for the sill plates, PB cover and shifter plate. The problem is they are almost all stripped out or have bigger screws in them. What would be best for plugging them and retapping for correct screws? I thought about something like 'plastic weld' but don't know if it would be strong enough. Any better ideas?

We have some 2 part 3 M tube epoxy that I use at work that is easy to use. It is durable enough to drill and tap. Not sure where this is available at since I order it direct. I would send you some but you have to have their gun and aplicator tips to squirt it out.

You might check with your favorite auto parts store though for something similar. If it bonds to plastic you should be good to go.

Dwain, we also use the same stuff at work as Tux described. We epoxy aluminum wear collars to 10' aluminum tubes that drive the tail rotor on the Apache AH64. I'm sure you can get something similar at Lowes. Eastwood has a no weld panel adhesive that may work, it comes with three mixing tubes.

Don't let him near the Oh Jesus nut!
I use E-6000  for that kind of stripped out plastic.  Even for broken plastic screw mounts.  Smells for a few hours during cure. I stripped the mount for the coil in my new dist cap and used that stuff on the long screw that holds the coil to the electrical connections and let it cure overnight.  That was about 9 months ago.  Still working great!

Thanks for ideas guys. Looking at Lowes and O'rielly's online at their epoxys, I saw they both also had a 'epoxy putty'. If that would hold, seems that might be easier to get into a hole without as much mess. Just have to see what it says on the package.
Got the passenger seat out, apart and the new covers on the new foam with all the rods, hog rings and clips. Now to straightened the bottom frame, sand and paint the seat rails and do the same to the drivers seat and maybe I can get rid of my kidney belt. Sorta like riding a rigid frame bike now. LOL

Yes Gilbert.  That is the stuff.  It is nice to have around the house and shop.  Very stinky though.  The smell does go away completely.  I keep the tube in a plastic zip lock type of bag.  Don't glue anything together that you may someday want  to part.  It won't.LOL

Scott, bad memory...we had to do a redesign on those wear collars as the first design epoxy came un done and rings shifted Shocked Pilots did not like that so much. New design is bullet proof....no really ..... we have gotten some back from the field with bullet holes right through them and they kept on running.  God Bless America (were on the f14,15,16,18, 22,117, T1, SR71, U2, B1,B2, JSF, V22. AH64, Blkhawk, CH53K, H1, well pretty much anything badaxed that flies.

I'm always weary of glue near any of the rotating parts, even if it can be drilled and tapped(added for the topic police)Tongue

We sell #8 screws with #6 heads so they grip better, but still look correct.  That would help for some holes.

Thanks Larry, I'll keep that in mind for next time or if this epoxy I picked up today doesn't work.
