Trying to install a new dash for my newly painted car, but I forget how to remove the light handle so I can pull the dash out over it?
I have the plastic thing with lights written on it loose but the handle is still connected to the back of the dash in the lighting wiring box... I did it once but can't remember how do you remove the rod going through the dash to pull the dash out of the car?

Thanks BB78

Not sure if it's the same as in the 81 but I left the switch in, just unplugged the switch from the wire harness and too it out once I had the dash out.  As I recall there was a knob/button that I had to push to disengage, not sure if I actually did that as I believe mine was loose...heck it's been 3-4 yrs.

Yes thanks for the response as there is a button on the bottom of the light switch behind the dash pad and after several pushes of the button the light knob does pull out so you can remove it from the dashpad. I had done it before but the Dimensia gets in the way. Thanks for your response and I will be adding two more dumb questions in the quest to get the dash back on.

Pull the headlight switch out to the first notch(park lights), the push in on the release button. Pull the knob/shaft out of the switch. Thumbs Up

Ok thanks for all the info I now have the dash in and the headlights work and interior dome light but the parking lights will not come on?  I will take the knob out and try put it in again and see what happens.  I have checked the harness and it seems like everything is in tight.  but at least the headlamps work.

Now the real work trying to all the harness speedo and tach back in and have to make all new holes for screws around the dash. Hope I get the parking lights working, I doubt there would be a separate fuse for those I must not be making good contact for those wires?

But there is a separate fuse. And the dash light circuit feeds off of the park lights. The headlights feed from a fuseable link and have a circuit breaker inside the switch. There are several different switches inside the headlight switch.

Thanks it was working but with all the fussing getting out the light handle something must have blown. Yes it was a 20amp fuse so parking lights are back on and the dash is in and the steering wheel remained in place.
Thanks again for the info!  BB78
Still a lot of work ahead getting back together and on the road can't wait1
