I'm having the floor boards replaced on my 76 as they totally rotted out. i want to add insulation under the carpet any suggestions which works best. corvette centrals heat barrier kit says it reduces heat by 50% and is $109.00 for a 6piece kit, and mid america has a kit for $79.00 which is a combo sound deadener and heat shield, both are front only.

I put in the foil heat barrier from Mid-America. Before I did you couldn't wear sandals without burning your foot. I would say I did get at least 50% difference in temp. Very pleased with results, plus they are very good people to deal with.Thumbs%20Up

You can go to Home Depot, or Lowes(or whatever home improvement center you have) and get a roll of the exact same insulation a lot cheaper. You will have to cut/fit it yourself, which is a pain, but it is worth it. It DO take some time to get it installed correctly...by that I mean installed so that it actually covers everything, with NO open holes.
Just FYI...

Sound like a nice idea but you did not give someone who has never seen the heat shield stuff much to go on when they go to Home Depot.  It could be water heater shielding (that is thick stuff so I think not).  Give us a picture or a part number and what department it would be located in

Thanks

I think it's called Reflex (? on the spelling). Get a roll of it and a roll of aluminum tape. Tape all the seams with it. the stuff works great and it's cheap. It's for heat only, it is not a sound deadener. I did my entire interior with the stuff, goes down very easy, forms to the floor shape easily.

I used the same stuff but got it at Home Depot. Used 3M 77 spray on adhesive to attach. It made a difference for sure on my vette.

Don't forget to check the tunnel insulation above the transmission.  When I swapped out the clutch on "The Toy" that insulation came out in chunks.  Didn't have the time to wait for a replacement to arrive so put everything back together without it.  Wish now I had waited.  That insulation will get installed the next time the tranny is out of the car.

Bought a package of Dynamat from Summit Racing and put it in a couple of places in the interior of "BIGBRRD".  Kinda spendy for the amount of material received.  I'll be checking HD and/or L's before putting the carpeting back in.
