I completed taking out the interior this morning. I am now taping everything off so I can apply a coating of lizard skin for my heat barrier. I was really impressed with the results on my 74 when I did the floor boards. I removed the drivers dash  and now i have to make a decision on the chrome rings that go around speedometer and the tach. They have slight pitting and the plating is terrible. Guess I have to buy 2 new ones. I got the vent door on the passenger side freed up as it was tight and the cable wouldnt open it. I found a relay that was under the console but im not sure what it is. It has a  3 wire connector and a 2 wire connector on it. I havent had a chance to look it up yet.
I think the interior is going to be a challenge because there are so many tiny details that will take patience and time. I have time but I have no patience at all anymore! I am going to repaint the shifter console, heater selector assembly and the center gauge unit, wiper switch plate, door handles and I am sure some other parts as well. Is this black to be used the satin black? Should I purchase it from a corvette vender, eastwood or will a local can of ace hardware be a match?
When putting this back together does anyone have a step by step procedure that should be followed? I dont want to have to take things apart because it should have been done before other things. I guess I will  start with the driver and passenger dash, then go to the dash pad? once they are in then I guess its the carpet followed by the console and the brake assembly then finish with the seats then door panels. Sounds so easy!
Well thats it for now, I wasted yesterday watching football so I didnt get everything done this weekend that I wanted to. I plan on going back out tonight to spray the lizard skin then let it dry this week.

Went back out tonight and sprayed the floorboards and inside firewall with the lizard skin. Only took about an hour to mix and spray. Another1/2 hour to clean the gun. Now I will wait till next week to start the interior work. That will give it plenty of time to dry. Then the fun begins. Again I will offer the lend the lizard skin gun to anyone in the C3VR group that is going to use the lizard skin spray. Dont buy one if your going to go this route. I already spent the money and it is only good for that use. I will probably never have to use it again as I dont plan on buying any other Vettes. Of course i didnt plan on owning one, then a second one! I must be nuts!

I'm right there with you Rodney.

I finished taking out the interior on my 74 yesterday.

For heat/sound/carpet, I'm going for reflectix and a carpet with mass back + jute.  I will also seal the heater core and firewall grommet.

Question for you; on my floor (under the railing trims) I have rust spots around the screws and a few on the ceiling and around the doors where I can trace some old water leak.  Did you have rust spots?  How did you take care of it?

Also, in the back, the light is connected to a metal plate that is completetly surface rusted.  The plate is held in place with studs (forgot the real name).  Does it have to be drilled out to clean both side of it?

I saw another of your thread where you say you are replacing the heater core.  I'm really thinking about doing this one too "while I'm there", but I'm on a budget.  How do you test a heater core?  I don't want to replace if I don't have too.

I'm also thinking of re-dying the interior and fixing all the cracked/peeled of corners of the dash parts.  I think I'll manage this one correctly; just don't know if it's possible to "solidify" the screw holes as some are a little loose.  Might do the epoxy trick I've read somewhere else.  Are you doing something to your interior parts?

We should start a thread to keep each other updated on our progress.  I haven't received my carpet yet (probably another 10 days or so), so that gives me times to prep the interior.

Hang in there!  I hope you do re-assembly before I do; this way, it will be fresh in your memory when I pick your brains about it.

Steph.
