Here's the deal at first I thought I would just respray the worn looking plastic pieces in the 82.Well now that I think more about it, should I do the seats and door panels as well.

The last guy that owned this car painted it dark green metallic, car still looks great. It has the original 13I gray interior with the exceptions of the seats and door panels. He has replaced these item with the Silver Green interior color. It looks nice but I am returning the interior to the stock color and eventually the exterior as well. The seats and panels are almost like new. Has anyone here sprayed over seats and door panels with good results?

I am not afraid of pulling the project off. I know I have the skills to spray on the product and properly prep the items, but I am unsure of what kind of results to expect. Are these common practices now versus replacing seats covers and panels?

Will it last and wear well? I would just hate to spay a nice seat or panel and it turn out badly. I just have NO knowledge of how well the products work.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!  TIA!  IUROX

I would first go to an upholstery shop and ask them for recommendations.  Some materials for that may be available through normal retail outlets and some may only be found through sources for professional usage only.

You might also check a good automotive paint supplier.  They can mix any color you like and add a flex agent so it doesn't crack so easily.  That's how padded dashes and rubber bumpers are done.

To me, the best would be to simply get door panels and seat covers in the correct colors and install them.  You may be able to sell the old stuff and help offset the costs.  I'm a bit anal about those things and my attitude is that I only want to do these things once, as I know I'll not be happy if I try and cheap out and not be happy with the results.

Well that is exactly how I feel, I am very picky. the wife says just clean the carpet. No it is total crap.
This is why I am leery, but if some one has done it with good results I would like to here about it.

Honestly I can live with of color of the seats and panels for awhile I was just going to spray some of the plastics and thought hmmm while I am at it. But a quart instead of 3 cans, that kind of thing. Thanks for your input.

I did all the trim panels on my 72 and 75 with interior upholstery dye and it looks great. You can get the dye from Corvette Central or Mid America. You will need prep all plastic pieces first with plastic prep they sell also. But it looks great when done. I have not done seats but it said you can.

Good luck
Dean

Well I am moving ahead on the plastics for sure. Would love to try the seats but want to hear from someone that has done it first. Again seats and panels are so nice I hate to buy other and then sell these. It would be nice to dye them if they can turn out nice.

I had an air compressor and invested in a touch-up paint prayer.  Went to a local auto paint place and gave them the number of the original paint.  They provided me a quart. not cheap by the way.  They also would have put it into spray cans for a price.

I purchased the prep from them.  also.  Just another way to go if you want.  the Dupont numbers for 82 CE are Silver beige exterior D8259G Silver beige interior D8259J Dark brown interior D8262J.  By a quart size not the pint like I did I had to go back later an buy a quart just to finish up.
