I have an 8 track in my CE.  Want to replace it with a CD radio.  Not anything fancy just for some music.  I have a tin ear and with the tops off you are kidding yourself if you think you can hear the full range of tones the really expensive systems put out.

My dash is out. So I want to replace the speakers before I put them in and would like to keep the Original equipment including the 8 Track just incase someone really wants it some day.  But that said anyone have some suggestions on a radio/CD system that they put in a late model C3.  Do not want to have a CD changer or external amp.

Your going to have to Cut the Dash to put in a Modern Radio. If your interested in a Stock Looking Radio You can go that Route to. Cutting the Dash is not that big of a deal and if You keep Your Original with the 8 track you can buy a new one allready cut. Other than that the Sky is the Limit. I used a Blaupuntk Seattle because its not Wild looking it has Black and has Crome edges that look like the OEM trim of the Console Dash. Its also the only Radio made today that dosn't come from China, its made in Portugal.

My advice is never cut an original bezel; they are getting harder and harder to find.  If you want the CD, purchase an aftermarket precut bezel, or a used part and cut it.

Remember:  CE bezels are one year only.  Hold on to the one you have.

I got a Kenwood and the Bezel from Corvette America.  Kept my original old Bezel and radio/speakers.  The Kenwood wasn't that expensive and you can hook up an IPOD or play a CD.  It sounds ok.  Went to Car Toys and bought some speakers for the kick panels.  My car is older than yours, but you might want to check something like that out.  Good luck and keep us posted on what you end up with.Wink

Take a look at custom auto sound, they keep the stock look but have all the modern electronics, I opted for the I-Pod connector takes up a lot less space and holds a lot more music, Just type a search for "custom auto sound"

I had Auto Sound in mine and it was junk. Could not get good reception and sound quality was poor. Not worth the money. I bought a Kenwood after the Auto Sound died (2 summer season). It has a USB on the front for a memory stick that you can fill with music. It also has a small jack next to the USB for connecting an MP3 player. I loaded a bunch of music on to a memory stick and that is what I use. It sounds great and gets great reception from the radio stations. Should have done this from the start. By the way the Auto Sound looks great if you are just interested in showing the vette. But I like to listen to music while I drive.

What was the Kenwood model number and where did you get it.  Also what about the speakers.

My Kenwood is KDC-MP438U. I can't remember what the speakers are but they are middle of the road type. I have a pair mounted under the dash in the stock location and a pair in the back. See link. I am not a hard core stereo guy with big base and amp. Just like a little tunes (rock and roll)

Oh, I forgot to tell you that that Kenwood I got came with a Bezel and it looks good.  You will have to order a different one if you get one with a Bezel (mine is for a '69).  Keep your old Bezel, I still have my old Bezel.Wink

ALCON, I think a Custom Audio radio with CD deck player hook up would be better. Too bad a I-Pod hook up would be wayy much better than a CD player. Lotts more good stuff than a CD player. Just my thoughts, thanks.
