I noticed today that my trim rings that are on the outside of the speedometer and tach are all a chrome plating. I look for these at different venders and I didnt find replacements. I talked to Rich about his and his are black with just the front edge trimmed in chrome. I went online and checked on about 15 - 20 vettes for sale and they all look like they are black with the front edge trim chrome. So did someone remove the paint on mine? Is it supposed to be black with just the front edge chromed? And is the black to be satin or gloss? Thanks for the help.
Rodney

Matte black with chrome on the edges is what mine are on my 74 (and I beleive that's standard for all years).  Never seen all chrome - sounds interesting actually.  Pics?

FYI, if you're searching for replacement pieces on line, I think most places call these "tach/speedo bezels"

The bezel itself would have been chromed, and then everything but the leading edge would have been painted. Imma thinking they would be a low gloss/satin black. Too much chrome in the area would have had some bad side effects while driving, such as bright reflections in your eyes. Cool

Joel is exactly right.  They are pot metal that is chromed and then all but the edge is silk-screened satin black.

Thanks guys! And I mean that, this means I can repaint them and not have to buy a new set. Finally something I can save a few dollars on!
Thanks Again
