I am replacing the inside rear view mirror. Can anyone tell me how to get the piece that

I'm sure you've already considered the obvious, unless you want to change the location slightly, you'll never see the old / new one after the mirror is on. I did raise mine up slightly, and then it fell off, and again. 3 tries to get it stuck good again , but, no big deal.

I replaced my inside mirror with a custom engraved chrome mirror.  The new one came with the piece that attches to the wind shield, BUT I used the original one.  I had to turn the piece that came with the mirror upside down, but no one can see that. I have had to glue those mounting pieces back on the wind shield and it is not too hard to do...BUT you have to follow directions exactly.  I agree...leave the old one in place.  I did know a person that tried to remove that piece with a pair of pliers....it came off, along with the same size piece of wind shield...aaaarrrrggggghhhhh
