Hey Guys,
I bought a new E-Brake Console for my 72 and can't seem to get the old one out.  I have removed the 4 screws (2 on each side) but it is still held firmly in place.  The new one has threaded posts going down from the center of the console.  How do I get to these without removing the transmissionQuestion  There does not appear to be any access from the center rear compartment.

Also I purchased the door panel repair kit which covers up the armrests.  What do you suggest cleaning the armrest with to remove many years of Armarol and body oils for good adheasion??
The door panels are in really good condition, just a few cracks in the armrests.

Thanks for any suggestionsWink

Dean

The studs sticking down hold the reinforcement.  The reinforcement has a nut at the back of it.  There is a bolt that comes in from the rear storage compartment area.  It is a pain to get to.

Yeah..that one bolt is a major pita!!
Take the pass side storage box out of the compartment, then reach back in there and feel around for a fastener in the area of the center console. The bolt is right in the center of the console. It takes a little while to find it, usually. It is a 7/16" head bolt, and there is VERY little room to maneuver a wrench in there. Lot's of folks will leave that bolt out on reassembly, but I prefer to put it back.

Clean the arm rest area with alcohol(no..NOT Jack Daniels).

WHAT, NO JACK DANIELS!!!!!  I thought this was going to be a fun job!LOL

After looking at the AIM I see the retainer and the reinforcement are both attached to the console (as Larry stated) and they are held in place by that one bolt.  Now all I have to do is find someone with small nimble fingers to get that bolt out.  How about drilling a hole in the front of the center compartment and slip socket and extension through to the bolt??

Thank you Larry and Joel for your help!Thumbs Up
