Hey guys, have the entire interior out of my 72 Coupe - refurbished everything and starting to re-assemble.  However I cant easily separate the seat tracks. I don't see a stop or other method of keeping the top from sliding off the bottom.  Would like to take them apart to clean and lube.  Anyone have any ideas on how they come apart?  Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend taking them apart, myself....but that's just me.
Soak them in Simple Green, or Engine Brite, brush as much as you can with a stiff brush, and a toothbrush(not YOURS, of course) , then spray them clean with water, and blow dry with compressed air(if possible). Then use a spray-on Lithium grease. If you are going to paint them, paint before using the grease.

Thats how I did mine back when I got my car. The passenger side wouldn't move at all! It took a while working it back and forth with the lithium grease. But now they work like a charm!

Thanks guys.  I find I get carried away and take too many things apart.  I will take your advice,  I had already cleaned and painted them about a year ago....then they sat .......and now I notice a little rust, guess I'll clean them again by soaking (great idea) and then lube.  Maybe I won't let them sit a year this time.  Time to get ready for spring!  PS  Barry been following your painting saga, I need to do that next so I'm very interested in your final result as I'm in central NJ, not too far to Maryland!

So far, so good on the paint (although I haven't seen the color or clear coat yet). You've got to talk to Lew! He puts you totally at ease. I still can't believe I have been so calm. Normally I'd be climbing the wall!
