well i finally got the 86 seats installed in my 75. i used the seat rails from the 75 and made up brackets to bolt the seat buckets to. took about 2 hours for each seat. first one may have been a little longer as it took some time to scope out how to do it.

to me they look a lot better in there than the originals and are a lot more comfotable. it even looks better looking in the back window with the headrests showing.

will have to go out tomorrow and finish hooking up the replacement door latch assembly and reinstall the door panel.Big%20smileThumbs%20UpClap

here are a few pics of the seats.

Those really do look pretty good. The overall fit looks very factory and people that do not know Vettes will think they are stock. Good job!Thumbs%20Up

I like the end result! Did you have to change the way you enter / exit the car to keep from dragging the over the bolsters?

thanks for the compliments. everyone loves that color. wife says i can have the 90 and she'll take the 75. i was surprised myself how great they looked installed too. no tux i didn't have to change the way i get in the car-- i still have to open the door first Rolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20LaughingRolling%20On%20The%20Floor%20Laughing (sorry couldn't help that). seriously it hasn't changed the entry. just raised the tilt all the way which i would have done anyway and as i have to get my right leg all the way in first i am basically in the seat and slide down in it. as they sit a hair higher when i first got in it, it felt like i was closer to the door panel but after i drove it i didnt even feel it. i think it is one of the best improvement upgrade a person can do.

Thanks for the info Dave. I really like that style seat and had never considered them for a C3. I asked about the bolsters because that is the most worn seat area on C4's.

In a C4 you have to get over the raised rocker plate and most folks drag the bolster both in an out in the process. Naturally the drivers side get a ton of wear.

I didn't know how this would change in a C3 because of the rocker plate being close to flush with the floor pan. I know in my C5 I turn around and sit down backwards and then rotate towards the steering wheel once I am in.

That is once I open the door........

understand about the bolsters tux. used the c4 seats as i know they are comfortable from my 90. my legs are long so i cant get in the way you describe so in either vette my right leg is in and i slide down in seat and then get my left leg in. after a few times you know exactly when to bend and slide. only problem is if i am halfway in and have to get out quick i get my leg caught. have to master that part.

i previously bought a seat of seats from whitneys and measured everything and when i installed the only thing i forgot to measure was the height of the seat cushion and it was too high and legs were jammed in steering wheel. after i got my 90 i realized that the c4 seats would fit. and bought them off ebay. now all i have to do is put the other seats i bought on ebay and try to sell them.

This is what is so dang kool about this place!

I was jawin with SRJ the other night about maybe upgrading the seats in my red 80. That will be the regular driver in the future and the one I want to take to 2011 gathering. We were not sure if anyone had tried this, so tonight i used the search funtion and found this thread....awesum.

So fast Eddie how have those seats worked out now that you have had them in for a couple years?

they are still as great as the day i put them in. they are comfortable and the look is like they came from the factory. when i go to cruise nights, people that know corvettes are amazed how nice they appear and even they say they look like they were made for the car. one of the guys there has a 75 too and was always complaining about the comfort of his seats. when he sat in mine he said if he changes his he will most likely be putting in c4 seats.

as i said originally, i think it is one of the best improvements i have made to the vette. plus making up the piece to bolt the seat bucket to the seat tracks was pretty easy.

hope it helps.

dave
