I think I'm missing something.... the screws that go through the dash pad will not line up with the holes in the body. I've looked at all the pics I can find but no luck. Is there some sort of bracket or something these screws go to?

Nope...they should go right into the body there. Have you changed any of the dash pads?
You might try removing the upper pad, and then installing the cluster pad first, and the the upper pad.

I just had the upper setting there to check the fit, but I really have to crank these around to get them to line up. I may have to get some longer scews to get them in. Thanks Joel.

Are the pads the same ones you took out? Perhaps the little corvette fairies came by during the night and shrunk them on ya?!

Yep.  Looks like the pad needs to come up about an inch.  I ran across the same animal on my '68.  Problem was the routing of the wiring harness across the speedo and tach.

I had the same problem.  There is kind of a rule that everything you took out of a space will not fit back in to the same space.  I would check the cables and wires behind the instruments to see if you can get a better fit.

I stood on my head under there and I did find my courtesy lamp bracket was hitting the hood release. After lifting it up a little and getting over that things do line up a little better. These are brand new dash pads from Corvette Central. The old ones were junk held in by zip ties. I think I might make it fit now.
Thanks Guys

Lonnie
