After the paint job last October and now getting colder in the northeast time to get the windows in to extend the driving season.. Yes I know you need a lot of patience to get the windows to meet up with the rubber but have the bumpers in so the glass does not get scratched while making adjustments but the question is it seems like there is no rom to budge, I have the bumpers all the way back and its forced already against the glass so that it restricts the movement of the glass.  There is no way I could move them up or closer even though the screw is all the way back so I cant really adjust them anyway, its all the way back now and the bumper is up against the glass making it snug tight.. I could see if they were worn down then I have room to move them up or back but they will never get worn that much to move them. Its  like they are to thick to be useful?
What am I doing wrong?

Few dumb questions first:
1.Was the window ever working properly?

2.Is it a power window?

3.Did the whole window mech and glass & interior exterior felts and weatherstripping all come off door for the painting?

4.Did any of the parts for the window mech, guides, weatherstripping, felts get replaced?
5.Is everything re installed in proper sequence?

Here's a link for the  basic breakdown of the window assembly courtesy of WILCOX Corvette's website under 'repairs' that covers adjustments and assemblies..
Look it over and tell us what you are calling the bumpers..:)
Hope it helps..Jim

NOTE: this is for a slightly later C3 than 78 but it may help..Kim

I am talking about the anti rattle cushions if that is the right name for them, two on each door to keep the glass from scratching the inside metal in my opinion. They seem to just fit in and no room to adjust them either way. As if they could be too snug up against the glass and it slows down the up/down movement because of the drag they put on the glass. But there is no way to move them farther away from the glass as they are back all the way now???? It seems  like they are too thick and should be trimmed????

Both windows and parts were working prior to paint ( not saying that they lined up real well and went up and down real great, but reinstalled them and now trying to get them perfect.....
but don't think that will work.  New weatherstrip  that is not the most flexible and maybe not oem correct and not lining up correctly with the age of the frame, door and body.  But just trying to get them close, They are really never up during the driving season but would like to have them match the t=top strip without any glass pressure on them.

Thanks for the responses and will wait for a full day when I can try again. I have the assembly book page with the window alignment instructions but this on a new car not one from the swamps of Florida????

yes  that's what I call them   but you can adjust  slightly but that's all its takes   I did mine several times  got right  frist time left one  not so good  had door panel off too many times  loose bolt push into car bad part of all this that you have to put door panel to check,to check this buy reinstalling old one back in or take it out and try  window go right into weather  strip   I think they are to thick   I have extra  bought on ebay  I think I am goint to see if I can cut frt down I litte bit and try,   if someone on this forum knows how to adjust  let us know.   note I will also try to make hold down hole on bumper I litte bit longer    most of this I got from corvette restorer some time its just a pain   hope it helps you in winter in conn now  I wont get to till spring  dwa

Dwa - your PW issue could be one of three things or a combination of all. First old grease and dirty tracks can get pretty stiff over time. Cleaning all of the window tracks and re-greasing them with a light weight grease such as white lithium can help out the operation of the motor. Second is the motor itself, you may need to purchase a new or rebuilt motor unit to get the window working properly. Third is the counter balance spring in the window regulator. This spring winds up as the window is lowered and helps provide lifting power as you raise the window. If the spring is broke, the motor is trying to do all of the work to raise the window. The good news is that the replacement springs and motors are available from vendors like ZIP, the bad news is that to do any or all of the above you need to remove most of the window regulator assembly. Take good notes and pictures as you dis-assemble and pay particular attention to the installation of the counter balance spring. The same spring is used on the L or R side and it must be installed properly to assist the upward motion of the window. I'd start by pulling the panel and cleaning. The motor can be removed/replaced without removing the regulator and if you have a broken counter balance spring, parts of it will probably be laying in the bottom if the door. Good luck and let us know what you find.
