i just got the sunday paper and  here are some bits from the article :

"17 people hurt, thousands without power in carlisle.  one person was injured when a tree fell on his vette as he was leaving the fairgrounds. he was taken to the hospital (no name given)  at least 5 five others were also taken to the hospital and 12 others were treated at the fairgrounds for injuries  and released.  most injuries were caused by blowing debris"
the last paragragh of the article reads: "weather service officials said there were no reports of a funnel cloud or tornado. Most of the damage is believed to be the result of powerful straight-line winds."

i'm going to keep an eye out for tornado reports and keep you all posted.  I was at the parade when it hit and I know it was the craziest thing i've ever been in.  My power came back on around 12:15 am. I think i was one of the lucky ones.  there are still trees down everywhere.

the C3VR booth was destroyed and many, many other booths completely wrecked.  we salvaged the parts we could of the C3VR tents and Adam headed home last night around 11:45.

that's all i have for now.  i hope none of the 17 injured were C3VR people.

everyone who was there check in please........

That's terrible news.  I hope all the damage wasn't too bad.  I'm lucky I went on Friday!  There were some nasty storms that went through the area here yesterday with the heat index at 100*.  Evidence of strong winds everywhere.

I got home around 2am. Wish Jeff's power was back on before I left. It was a sleepy long ride home!

Yes, the C3VR tents were ruined. Couldn't see staying for Sunday. I image most vendors left or were destroyed anyway.

I'm ok though.

Thanks to all that helped with everything!

Straight winds my Aunt Martha...  I've lived in OKC for 47 years and those trees don't look like straight winds, they look twisted around.

The weather media anywhere doesn't want to call it a tornado if they don't get the warnings out on time.  They will push for straight line winds when the damage is painfully obvious there were tornado's.

We had that situation out west of here last weekend.  It took them a couple of days to really fess up about it being tornados.

Hope all our guys, and everyone else is ok.

Keep checking in.

Just got home and read this. We left Sat. about 1:00pm. Had no idea what happened until I read this. Just rain in the night at the campground we stopped at off I84. Hope everyone is OK. Hope this doesn't have a negative effect on the outcome of future events.

Glad everybody is safe and well.  It's a shame that things wrapped up early.  Last year, I just happened to see the C3VR tent on Sunday (it was pretty slow and wet last year too), otherwise I wouldn't even know about this place!

Got home about an hour ago. Good driving weather and no mishaps.
Like Hmel '74, I was in the parade also when it hit. It came up real fast, with strong winds knocking down trees and wires. Downtown Carlisle had no power. Streets were flooded for a short time. As the pictures show, lots of hit and miss damage at the fairgrounds. Some big tents were destroyed while smaller tents within 50 feet were untouched.
A pop-up trailer had the top half bent and pushed down.
I don't believe any C3VR members got hurt or had any car damage.
Many vendors pulled out Saturday night and Sunday morning, but the show went on. Fortunately, no more rain or winds. It actually turned out to be the best day, weatherwise.
I will upload some pics shortly.

I was in Hersey PA when the storm came through there. I can assure you it was scary. The storm lasted about a 1/2 hour, but the worse part only lasted about 10 min.
A few trees went down and some places lost power less than a 1 mile north of Hersey.  The local news did mention some reports of tornado's. I'm glad to here that Adam made it OK, and hope no one was seriously injured.
No matter how much damage was sustained, it can all be repaired or replaced.

Thanks for your video & update Dave! Looks like the metal framed canopies really took it on the chin during these storms.

Hopefully this won't have an adverse effect on future shows and those who were injured will recover quickly.

What was the crowd level like?
What percentage of Vendors left early?
What was the mood?
Should I have stayed?

Darn I lost my 1st reply....
Crowd level was normal for a Sunday...BUT quite a few  of the vendors were
NOT selling just salvaging... So I believe you did good by getting out of Dodge when you did...  Only complaint I really heard from one Vendor that
if SKIP Miller was Still alive he would have been out on the grounds talking to vendors all night long ..

He did say that Carlisle had plenty of people out there during the night BUT he was still waiting to catch a glimpse of Lance... He did NOT say anything about Bill Miller.. His mood was pretty upbeat it was just that I got the impression that he felt that Carllisle responded to this storm much as did the US Government did in New Orleans.. kind of a Corporate reaction rather then a Hands on response that would be expected if Skip was still around..

Ok...how do we get a fund raiser together to BUY a new Tent..and did much merchandise get destroyed...?  gota get something going ..

=============
I just came in from the yard..spent the morning using the chain saw in the yard then loading the limbs etc  into the pickup to haul away (Tomorrow).
Car is already up on the lift awaiting the WD40 and rags treatment to clean up the underside this afternoon...still have not unloaded it however..
1st things (the car) first ...

Ride home Saturday was a thrill...got hit by the storm about 10 miles from the Maryland line and I had to pull over then get off the highway.. Fighting the wind to say in a lane Is ok BUT I was having big trouble just staying on a 2 lane highway was a thrill I do not wish on anyone.. How the Big Semi's handles this wind is beyond me.. it pushed the 64 all over the place..

HEAT got to me by Saturday afternoon so I never got the scooter up and about much in the Afternoon..sat under my tent drinking beer with my loacl club members most of the time...  would have made the dinner on Friday
IF it were held outside, and the a good breeze was flowing. ..BUT I was soaked by perspiration by 6 PM and knew the only seat in the Restaurant t would have been right next to a fellow C3 member and I did not want to offend anyone especially a C3Vr member...   not quite that bad but you get the idea.. I was not very comfortable LOL

Actually, it was "Chip" not "Skip".
When I was there around 10pm, I went over to look at the tent that collapsed on the collection of '57s, I saw Lance out there doing what he could to help out.

Brain FART Adam...

I know darn well it IS CHIP (not was.. as the man will never be forgotten)   Just beat dealing with my own storm damage...

But how about someone coming up with a way to fund a replacement tent

My wife does craft shows and I filled 3 foot section of 4" PVC pipe with concrete which we hang from each corner when we set up .. BUT even thise would have been completely useless at Carlisle this weekend.  The C2 registry tent is right next to the Mid America Tent...and the Mid America
Tent was off the ground more then a few times I understand.. They did NOT officially open for business on Sunday, but you could still buy something.. Their crew was packing things inside the Semi Tractor Trailer by about 11 AM

Bob G.
Now back to the car, this break has got my wife on my case...LOL

I left the show Saturday around 5. From what I saw many of the vendors started closing up around 4 and it looked like to me that the crowd was down that day. I'm guessing from the heat and humidity. I was in the shower at the motel I was staying at when the storm came through. When I headed NE on Rt. 11 to dinner, I could see the lightning in the distance. It was pretty wild. I did not know of any damage at the show field until I went to the show on Sunday. The pictures and videos speak louder than words. I hope that anyone who went to the show for their first time does not get discouraged by what happened. I've been going every year since around '95. It really is THE BEST show in the East. Ask anyone. Glad to hear that no-one was seriously injured. And, I don't know about anyone else but I can't wait 'til next years show.

crowd was low in my opinion
I would guess have the vendors were either gone or packing it up Sunday morning. Only the parts guys with the tarps on the ground can say they weren't effected.
Mood was down for the vendors, OK for the spectators. I understand they were charging full price to get in Sunday.
No, you made the right decision.

Wow. What a mess. I feel we were actually lucky having only about $5K worth of damage caused by that semi truck at the toll booth, and not being at the fairgrounds when the storm hit. It could have been worse. Anyway - we made it back to Michigan without problems, and we hope everyone else got home safe and didn't incur too much loss at the show. Living in Michigan we're used to changing weather at a moments notice, but that thing was a nightmare. Best wishes to all. Nice meeting you at the show! Craig & Janet Craig93andJanet822007-08-27 15:46:49

hi guys,
i was with 3 other guys trying to cover up mechandise when the storm hit.
the tarps kept blowing off and then the major wind blast hit!
the four of us grabbed on to the canopy poles to keep it from taking off ! a couple of times we almost got lifted in the air.
we got soaked, plus there was hail about the size off a dime that was pelting us along with the rain !! (PLEASE, you don't have to tell me how DUMB that was !!! BUT, it DOES make a great story !!!!! ) ( It was probably from having one too many beers from the 100 degree heat !! LOL anyways the canopy did survive but the 20 x 20 next to us landed on top of a tractor trailer !
well. here are some pics of that vette they talked about in the newspaper article where the tree and or tree limb fell on his car.
it's a 69 coupe out of long island. it happened right out side gate #1.
the guy drove it into the fairgrounds and parked it under a tent.
i watched as the ambulances came and checked him out, put a neck brace on him, (the t-top hit his head plus i hear there was shattered glass in his face.) of course they sent him to the hospital.
i spoke with his girlfriend/or wife? on sunday and she said he was doing fine but was still in the hospital.
well, i'm glad he's OK. it COULD have been worse had it been a larger limb !!
dave, (dwright), it was nice meeting you in person early saturday morning !
joe
ps. hope these pics come out !!!

Glad everyone is okay. I had left the fairgrounds and thought about returning, but rain was predicted. I read about the storm in the papers and heard about it on tv. Left my hotel at about 6:15 am Sunday to return home.

Just reading the forums. Glad to hear everyone escaped harm.

I thought Friday afternoon was brutal. When I got in the truck to go home Friday about 4PM the thermometer in the truck read 110 degrees.
Craig & Janet
Craig and Janet,
Thanks for stopping by Row NJ to visit with us. It was nice meeting you and again sorry to hear about your accident with the semi. I hope everything can be fixed to your satisfaction. Glad to hear you got back home safely.

I am very happy that no one was seriously injured. I feel bad for those that were hurt and had their cars damaged. Glad all of our folks are safe.
Glad everyone is okay. I had left the fairgrounds and thought about returning, but rain was predicted. I read about the storm in the papers and heard about it on tv. Left my hotel at about 6:15 am Sunday to return home.
Karen,

Wow that is incredible, I'm really glad no one was seriously hurt.

My cousin from Connecticut was leaving Gate 1 in his 78 Pace Car (yes my cousin has the same car as me) right behind the parade when the storm hit. He said he was hit by a plastic trash can doing like 60mph, and a 5 foot branch landed on his T-Top, luckily he only recieved scratches to the car.
