It is YOU guys & gals that make C3VR so great and so useful for so many!  So you should get something back for your efforts!

I'm going to implement some sort of rewards system in the very near future.

Here's what I'm thinking.  It will be based on posts. You'll get points for posts.  For every 100 posts, you'll get 10 points.  As you accumulate points, you can cash them in for rewards.  Here's an idea of what the rewards will be.  This is very preliminary!

points - reward
50    C3VR Keychain
50    C3VR Window Sticker
75    C3VR Lapel Pin
100    C3VR Mug
150    C3VR 1-Year Standard Membership
200    C3VR Logo T-shirt
200    C3VR Logo Cap
300    C3VR 1-Year Gold Membership
400    1-year NCM Membership
500    C3VR Logo Polo Shirt
1,000    C3VR Lifetime Membership
1,000    $200 Gift Cert to Parts Vendor

I'd like your thoughts on this idea.

Thanks!

You didn't read that right, or I didn't explain it right...
it is not 1 point per post. It is 10 points for 100 posts.  You'll need 10,000 posts for a Lifetime Membership.

And no, I don't like the idea of the extra work, but I don't think it will be too bad. I just want to give you guys (and perspective members) more reasons to love C3VR!

The first earning level is 50 points (500 posts).... Someone would have to REALLY waste a lot of time to make 500 useless posts.  Plus, I'll be reviewing each request to cash in points.  If the 500 posts are useless, they'll be disqualified from redemption.

The other possibility I thought of is to rate not only on post count, but length of posts.  However, there is no easy way to do that via any automated system because of the graphics in posts.  Graphics while only one smiley, can take up an extra 50 characters.

One other method would be to add a rating system to each post.  Members could rate each others posts.  They you'd earn points based on member's rating of your posts.  This is probably the ideal way to do it, but would require a LOT of coding on my part. Not sure I'll have time to implement that...at least not soon.

Keep the feedback coming!

Thanks!

Ignore posts in New Member Introductions?? There are several people over on CF that seem to be interested in nothing but post counts, contributing nothing. Gets annoying!

Great idea Adam. I am sure the rating system will need some tweaking. I think responses to technical questions should carry more weight than member introductions for instance. Member introductions are a priority for me because I think new people get a stronger feeling toward the site when the full members take the time to greet them from the start. However, the introductions are relatively easy responses and should not carry the same weight as a post on how to recharge your AC or change brake pads. I personally joined C3VR for the technical expertise. My two cents.

You are doing a fine job with the site. Much Thanks

Scott

I agree there should be a way to ignore the post count for "New Member Introductions".  But, I do welcome each member joining C3VR because I think its important  and makes them actualy feel welcomed.

Adam maybe you could get a computer illiterate person to volunteer to maintain this system, sort of give them administrator rights.  Of course they will need to be a little more then just a casual computer user.

Also will previous post counts count?  Cause your already gonna owe Joel some stuff LOL

I agree with Scott and Mark too. My count is over 600 and a lot of that is due to welcoming new members, which I think is important, but doesn't require as much thought and effort as some members put into tech questions. Maybe they could count for half a point instead of a full one?? In that case I'd be closer to 350 or 400 posts towards my rewards points.

Yup - that's the only downside I can see. CF has big problems with some people posting just to post. Don't think that would happen here, though. This forum really is a good group of people.

You be quite, youse!

I don't know about this one...while it appears a genuine appeal to the membership to participate more, it just seems to me like it might be a bit much work to keep up with it. That being said, I really don't have any tech skills when it comes to 'puter stuff, or coding/language, etc., so I don't know how much extra you would have to do, Adam.
I do agree that the New Member welcomes really shouldn't be considered if this idea goes thru...and possibly the "Anything Goes" forum. Just my opinion on it.

(Like I NEED an incentive to post anything! )

OK, here I go opening my mouth and getting myself in trouble. I think it's goofy and will be a lot of work to maintain. I'm not going to post any more trying to get a "prize".  I post as often as I can, but to subjects that I can add to or entertain with. Several new members from the last year seem to have faded away and I miss some of them simply cause I was able to help or converse with them. I want to post more, but I need the subject matter to do that. I don't think "filler" posts are necessary, and that's what we may end up wading through! I'm on dial-up and read every post as it's updated and it's really annoying waiting on the thread to come up and the new post is just a Smile.

Flame away!

Just a thought - How will we prevent 1000 one word posts from a member? Especially if someone is shooting for 10,000 posts for a gift certificate.

Hopw about a a contest for DIY articles. The moderators independently vote on them and the prize is decided on internally. This will add quality, not quantity to the site...

To me.   I would rather support by purchasing items then to wait for a curtain post count to see what is avalible for my catch.   Yes, this seems good for those just started here or under a curtain post count to keep them honored here.

I to only post what I know or can help out with.  So my posts are low (to me).   Support and Friends are priceless.

Don't get me wrong.  This IS a very good idea you have.  Just going in the wrong direction.

Not sure when this thing got started, but i just have to ask "WHY???"   I mean Adam, boss man, you have be saying in the past that you needed some help with getting shark bytes out and help with the annual gathering, and thing of that sort so why are you/we looking into having more trouble than it is worth, personally, points, giveaways, would be a gross miss use of your labor, time, energy, and resouces.  People come here becuase of the site you put together and we are the reason people stay, anything above that is swimming up stream.  What to do something special than just do that, watch a new member post alot for tech answers or gives good tech answers, mail them a tshirt, or a manual, or something else.  You see someone with 999 post when they post thier next one they get a pm and you send them something.  Easy cuz it is all in what makes you feel good, and everyone loves good surprizes,, I know that i could care less about points or any of that crap I became a lifer, becuase this place is full of life.  I give something away every week, why because it makes me feel good, makes them feel special, and they are going to tell some one and that person is going to come shop my department to see if they will be so lucky, maybe they will. sorry this is so long.  Larry

My aren't we an opinionated bunch...    I don't really see much harm in your suggestion Adam. I guess I never really thought about a need for a posting incentative.

On the other hand I think is a nice gesture from you to reward those that have contributed. (Heaven forbid me for this...) Guyz like Joel, Mike, Ken & numerous others have come thru for many of us several timez over.

I doubt that it will change the complexity of the Forum much and if it should then I suppose you could unplug it anytime you wish. Afterall it is your show.... for now though herez my

I think based on these comments, I'm going to hold off on this.  I do like the "just send someone something as a surprise" idea, though.
I'll have to figure out another way of mass rewards. The posting thing could be too ugly and too much work.

Thanks for the feedback!

The thought is good but i believe it will add to a lot of BS postings. Maybe if you count the post and had a quarterly or semi annual drawing for a prize for the most post or post the quarterly top posters and let the members vote as in the corvette online show.
