I am considering/planning a Local gathering in Cuyahoga Falls OH, or nearby. At this time I am thinking a cook out and a cruise. We will be looking at July or August. I do not have definate plans as of yet, and will keep you posted as I go along.
I am open to suggestions. I am wondering how may are interested, and what they would like to do. This can be a short time, or an all day event. Should I invite the local Corvette club?
I guess I'm going to start small in scope, hopefully large in numbers. I would like to evolve this into a larger event in the future. Perhaps even tie it in with some local events. Maybe not. We have some good hotels/motels in the area for those who want to come from a bit farther away.
So what do you think? Chime in.
Ken,
We would love to come up and join you and the others for a cruise and food. We would only be able to go sometime in August. We plan on going to Carlisle (25th to 27th) so if those dates we will have to miss the gathering.
We are not worried if anything goes on. Just to sit down and chat is all we would love to do with you and the others. Sometimes skipping out resturants and shows are good for the soul.
I went to the Park and Recreation dept, and reserved the site and paid the $40. for the day. Not a bad price at all. These things fill up quick! The only weekend day still open in July or August was Aug 26. So I grabbed it. I hate to hear it conflicts with Carlisle. I would have to find another location, or go into September.
Mike, I would hate to miss you. So I guess I will at least start to plan on Aug 26, unless everyone would like to go into September or October. There are still dates open then.
The location is WaterWorks Park in Cuyahoga Falls OH. Very nice place. We will have a pavillion that will hold 60. There is lots a parking next to the pavillion. Restrooms very close by. And right next to the Cuyahoga River. Easy to get to from the highway, only two turns and about a mile. Charcoal grills on site. Electricity and water.
Once again, I ask for input. Should I reschedule for later? Who can make it?
Ken:
I'm intrigued. I think Cuyahoga Falls is a beautiful city, and I would love to be able to make it down there to meet you and others. For now, though, I'm going to have to play it by ear. You just never know what might happen between now and then.
For those staying overnight I am going to suggest they check into the old Quaker Oats factory/silo that was remodeled into an upscale hotel. I haven't stayed there personally, but have been through their gift shops and have eaten in the fabulous restaurant in the basement.
Then there is the hotel I did stay in while I was there, which is right on the river by the falls, just off the highway. Can't remember it's name. I think you told me once you live only a few blocks from it.
Keep us informed on the event. Hopefully I'll be able to make it...wife or not.
fyi - September has some dates for other events to be aware of that could draw folks away:
- Labor Day weekend has the NCM Anniverary Celebration in BG
- MAM's FunFest is the 15th-17th
- NCM R8C Xperience Reunion in BG the 28th-30th
Those hit 3 of the 5 weekends in September!
And don't forget about C3X the 12th-14th October!
I can see the schedule will be a bit rough.
The Hotel by the river right off of the highway is the Sherton Suite Hotel. And yes, it's only about 4 or 5 blocks from my house. I can make a list of local room if anyone would like me to do that. There are several good ones, and some very decent ones, and a few dives .
Cuyahoga Falls is not fancy, but it is a beautiful city. It borders on a national park. Not huge, but very nice. On the other side we have Akron. There is a lot of history in this area. Perhaps the cruise will include Derby Down where the National Soap Box Derby is held. And that would put us next to the Goodyear Blimp hanger. This is a HUGE structure. It is free standing, no floor to ceiling supports, and will hold something like 4 football fields. It was, and I think still is, the largest structure like it in the world. 40 or so miles south puts you in Amish country. Hale Farm and Village is a working farm community from the 1800s. People are in costume and behaving like daily life in that era. Very cool. Blossom Music Center is here. We have a riverfront area and mall where there are car shows, live bands every summer Friday, and all kinds of events. Summit Racing is 5.5 miles from my front door. The name Summit comes from Summit Co. Ohio.
Lots to think about. Should the cruise be a rally? I can plan a route to hit lots of things. What would you folks like to do? I think this will turn out to be a lot of fun. And a course, my daugher Megan will be along. She is going to help make plans.
Ken:
Fougeddaboudit! There's no way you can plan your gig around all the other gigs that happen during the summer months. The people who want to come, but are torn between attending your function or another just have to make a choice and live with it.
Like I said, I would love to attend, but will play it by ear. I will however watch the posts to see what you are planning. The biggest thing for me this year is going to be cost of gas!!!! I'm pretty sure the Pride and Joy will probably not see the light of day as much as I'd like this summer just due to that!
I'll be contacting you later, when I start to attempt that whole ultimate timing by pressure thing the forum was discussing a few months ago, for your advice and guidance. P&J started backfiring last year when I put her away for the winter when I would take my foot out of the throttle, so I think she's due for a look at the timing.
Anyway, like I said, make your plans and those of us who can attend, will, the others will make their choices and either live by them or regret them. Even if you only get one other Vette to attend, it's a start, but don't worry...that Vette will probably be me!
I'm fairly sure Hank and Bill will make it as well. Has anyone heard from Charley and LeAnne in Portage lakes? They are close by.
I think I will have to go with the date I have so far. Mark is right. There are too many other things going on. So there we have it. Aug 26, 2006.
Now to get the rest planned. It won't be too complex and fancy. I'm still open to suggestions.

Yes, we will do the same. You never know whom shall show up!
That was Summit's second location. The first was in the founders parent's basement. He found he could save money on hot rod parts by buying bulk and selling to his buddies.
I know a lot of plans will change as time gets closer, but I do need to start some planning soon. I hope it's a good turnout!
Bill, I'm counting on it. I know you'll be better by then.
Hank, are you out there?
The park is booked. Saturday Aug 26/06 Banners supplied by Iron82 will be hung up.
I spoke with Summit Racing about possiblily getting a tour during our drive. I plan on going by Derby Downs where the All American Soap Box Derby is held, the Goodyear blimp hanger which is a HUGE structure, and several other places not yet determined. The route will just be a cruise, but instructions will be printed in case we get split up in traffic. Then we can get back together and stay in a group. Maybe a poker run would be possible. Not sure on that one yet. I would like your thoughts.
The grill will be fired up, and I will have some basics. Hot dogs, Hamburgers, etc. More meal planning as time gets closer.
I can make up some certificates. Longest distance, best looking by member vote, ugliest by member vote, closest distance (except me), and other things like that. Just for fun.
We will be with in 100 feet of the Cuyahoga River if you perfer a bit of fishing. I'm still open for other suggestions.
Dude:
I'm coming down! Anyone else from Michigan or parts West thereof that are thinking of coming and want to join a caravan over to Cuyahoga, let me know! I'm seriously considering pulling into CF Friday evening and staying until Sunday morning.
Ken, you had mentioned a list of hotels in the area. Could you maybe post that so I can call around and reserve a room? Also, what would be a good point of reference (destination) for directions from Mapquest or Yahoo Maps?
I think I'm going to take the PrideNJoy in to my mechanic and have him give her the once over on the timing and to look see for anything else that might cause me problems on the trip down. Would hate to have to ride into town on a flat bed.
Looking forward to meeting as many other C3er's as can attend. I'll be sure to pick up some steaks on the way for that there grill Ken is going to be firing up!
See you in August!
Ken,
I am for sure going to make it ..no if's, and's or but's about it! The best part is that I am going to get to drive I get my temps this Tuesday. Can't wait to meet you all! (or whoever comes)
-Brint
Hey Can i go? Can i go? Well if the date changes i dont see a problem going and i will drive mine that weekend. no towing it for me again. Sounds good, i would need to take the weekend and stay down there. i cant drive to and from in one sitting. carlisle i am going to. and in august there is corvettes at englishtown raceway park which i will be at as well. if the date changes, i will watch and keep an eye out. i am currently talking to about 15 other C3s up by me and have them almost convinced on joining c3vr so hopefully i will bring another caravan down to you.
talk to you later,
Jeremy H.
Wow! 15 C3's in one fell swoop? Now that would be an accomplishment worthy of note! Great job.
Ken:
Anything on a hotel list or reference point for driving directions?
Not pushing, just want to confirm plans as soon as possible.
Thanks
Here is the address of the hotel Ken is talking about:
Sheraton Suites Akron
(330) 929-3000
1989 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls, OH
I used to live in that area and know it very well. This area that Ken is talking about was revamped back in the late 70's early 80's and is very nice. If this becomes a yearly event, maybe next year I bring my car. I don't want to take it on such a long trip right now since I don't know that car as well I should.
Ken, can I suggest going through Sand Run Park. There are tons of places there where you can stop and take some really nice pictures of your cars with nature as your background.
Sorry I haven't been on in the last couple of weeks. I have been as busy as a one armed paper hanger with the hives.
I am starting to plan the cruise route. It will include a stop at Summit Racing, and go past Hale Farm and Village. Hale is a working farm from the 1800s. Quite an attraction. We may go past the Goodyear Air dock, the largest freestanding structure in the world until just recently.
I will post a list of Hotels/Motels in the area this weekend. I will have time to get the list together by then.
I will also post directions from several different areas to here.
Time to get my plans laid out. More coming soon.
Hi Ken,
I'd really like to come to your get together but already have "Corvettes at Mackinaw" booked. I think it's a great idea for a regional outing. Good luck and all of you that can attend I hope you have a great time.

I will have hotel and motel information coming soon. Locations and phone numbers.
The Pride N Joy went into the shop last night for some needed maintenance items. Am hoping that I can get the AC and cruise done before coming down as well.
Yes, need that hotel info soon!!!!! We're getting tight on time, and I'd like to confirm early, but also don't want to drive 20 miles to or from the park either.
Am looking forward to spending the day with other C3er's for the first time. Any one thinking of going to Cuyahoga Falls from the Michigan area, I wouldn't mind meeting up and traveling the way together. I'll be driving down sometime on Friday, and back on Sunday morning. It should be interesting to see how many tankfuls it's going to take to get there and back.
See you all there!

According to Hotels.com, Sheraton Suites has no vacancy for the entire weekend of the gathering. Beautiful hotel, great location, but NO vacancy. Sorry!
Think I'll be trying the Country Inn. Hope it has a pool!
See you there!
I'm not sure if it has a pool. But I have a hose! Close?
I will be at the park by about 10 am or sooner. I am planning to start the cruise about 1 pm. My daughter and several of her friends will stay at the park and watch our things. When we get back from the cruise we will fire up the grill! I will stay the entire day.
Anyone coming Friday night let me know, and I will give you my cell number. For that matter, anyone coming who wants my cell, just let me know.
Bad news, Ken and the rest of you attendees! Plans have changed and I will not be able to attend this much anticipated function! No, no, no...the Vette is fine! Clean bill of health and all.
I just won't be able to make the function afterall. So, at this point in time all of my efforts are going to be concentrated on attending the gathering in Bowling Green in October, instead.
I'm sorry I won't get to meet Ken and his family and the rest of the family members here at C3VR, but hope that soon I can attend one of these family reunions, and see all my long lost relatives!
Grief, sadness and woe...oh, my!
