The "put it back together, cuss, pray I don't break anything, forget something, cuss, take it apart and put it back together phase" is in full swing this summer, as you can tell by my posts.

Well, I had the door panels "in".  Then I found the door weatherstrip kit and had to take off the new door panels.  Since they are out I'm going to lube the window mechanism so that won't give me a problem sticking(knock, knock, knock on wood).  I also need to get at least one remote mirror bezel and the 3 pronged dohickee (pardon the spelling and use of technical term) that holds the remote in place.  The bezel is easy enough to track down.  Anyone know where to locate the dohickee?

Also...I need the backing plate the bezel screws into.  As I have said the door panels are new and I no longer have the old ones to salvage(another long story). I assume I'll have to fabricate something.  Same goes for the power lock switches. Although I can't locate any diagram in my assembly manual that tells me how or where to attach them.

Any insight would be appreciated.  Heck, maybe these are just a few more reason I need to get some pain meds and make my way to Carlisle this yr.

Here is something for the sport mirror adjustor. it looks like the screws just go into the panel. I believe that is how mine is mounted.

Bob, in my manual it shows a backing plate. I'm guessing that it attaches to the door panel as it would be imposible, for me anyway, to attach it to the door.
Dan, here's a couple of pics of the dohicky:

Here's the bezel with the bracket that hols the remote

Here's the bracket, the black piece is a piece of plastic I used to tilt the bracket upward.  One of the prongs has broken off.

it could be the 77 has the trim at that location. I look at my AIM it does not show any back plate. I used some of the regular screw clips for better holding on mine.

I was able to get both the doohickey and the thingamabobs.  OK, the backing plates for the remote mirror bezel and the retainer for the remote mirror cable.  I received the retainer from my sisters boyfriend Bob, as he purchased a mirror assembly that came with it.  I bought the backing plates from ebay for $14, not cheap but, I don't have to try and have one made. Probably saved me more than that in gas.  All that is left for the doors is to lube the power window gears.

As far as my doors being loose and locating the holes for the two screws that go through the door panels and into the door...GM just put them in "areas" one being in the door "map" compartment someplace.  There were no exact spots.  So i'm just going to find two places to hide new screws.

here a pic of the backing plate:

Hey Bob, I just sent the seller a message asking for the part#.  He did not list one in the listing.  The seller was very reasonable, I bought the first one for $8, asked if he had another and sold the second to me for $6.

Bob, no part #.  He's all out of them and the ones he shipped to me did not have it.  If you like I can send you a pick, let me know.

Imma tinkin that "plate" is most likely part of the door panel itself, and not part of the "Remote Mirror" assembly. The backing plate does NOT show up in the Parts Manual at all....and therefore also does NOT have a part number assigned to it. I would assume it was installed on the door panel as it was assembled by the manufacturer(not GM), and was used across the board, whether the car was to have remote mirrors or not....Question

Joel, I had the same thought.  The problem comes about with a new door panel.  At least the ones I got from Corvette Central.  Can't comment on other suppliers.  They did say to keep all hardware from original doors but mine were long gone by then.

I attended the door panel installation seminar put on by the folks from Corvette Central at Carlisle and asked about that plate.  The installer who was giving the demonstration didn't know of the part# or whether it was available.  Maybe it was supposed to come with mine?

I doubt any of the door panel repro suppliers will have that plate to install, nor will they have a source for them....which is why they all say to keep yer old stuff. Of course, iffin yer old stuff is already gone, whachagunnado?
Either find a used one, or make yer own. You managed to find another one(or two), so yer good to go. Demand for those things would have to be really high for anyone to tool up to make them....which is why they don't. Best bet is to just make yer own, and be done with it if ya cain't find good used ones.

Joel, If I would have had one I could have easily made one up...or at least rigged a piece to work.  My next step would have been the trial and error method.  Since I found two I saved all that valuable yelling and cussing time!

But...that's half the fun, Dave!!! LOL

If you haven't already mounted them, could you make a template, and save it? Sure might come in handy for others...Wink

I have the original GM parts manuals for Corvette from '53-'82, and from '84-2000.
