I saw a guy on Barrett-Jackson pay $5 million for a car last night!!!

The car was Carroll Shelby's personal '66 Cobra Super Snake...427 dual supercharged, 800 hp. The same guy paid $600k for VIN 001 of the new Shelby GT500 Mustang which included the option to purchase VIN 002 at factory sticker!

It looked like all the bidders last night were fairly young to middle aged at most. Makes me wonder where I went wrong in life not earning that kind of dough.

More power to them if they can afford it. Even if I could have afforded it, I wouldn't have paid that kind of money...I would have accepted that kind of money but not paid it!

I watched it as well, The kingsnake is the last known one to exist. The other was built for Bill Cosby who sold it to another individual and he ended up crashing and totaling the car as well as himselfCry. The fellow that bought it as Gunslinger stated also bought the first production of the GT 500 ($600K)to his specs and he picked it up at the plant.

It looked like a 15 year old bought a '69 L-88 for $240,000.

The "Last Stingray" sold for $600,000.  Hopefully, that's the last we'll hear about it, the hype was getting annoying.

There were some cool cars going off the first day @ more realistic prices.

Yes, but as the guy from Pro Team noted just before the auction started, the owners of the last 62 were in the crowd and he hinted that he might be looking at that one for his next big project!

Shouldn't you at least have a drivers license before you buy a vette like that?  That kid looked to be in his late teens to early twenties.  That's like some of the kids who buy these 1200cc crotch rockets at 15 or 16 and don't take a driving class.

Maybe he'll just look at it, or maybe he's the next Tony Stewart.

To me... Barrett-Jackson over the past couple of years has just become a bunch of people with too much money who just want to say I outbid you for that car and personally I think its a shame.  I'd like to think that if I had that kind of money that I would chose to do something much more beneficial with it.  I'd get more satisfaction out of buying a wrecked car for nothing and turning it into what I want, rather than dropping the kind of cash they do for something already done up.  It is entertaining though.

Okay I'll declare open season on Tux... an be the DEVIL'S ADVOCATE. Although I like to sling a wrench like most of you I can appreciate those who who don't. Most are decent guys n gals with deep pockets that got that way from workin hard. Just because they buy a high $$$ car doesn't mean they don't spread their money around to more charitable places as well.

I don't care for the HYPE associated with the BJ auction but I hafta admit that if ya have the dough an want ta spend it on somethin ya like go for it. Ya only go round once on this ball so enjoy it while ya can.

Me I'll just keep pluggin away. An if I someday find my nitch in da world you can bet I will buy a few more toys. Maybe not as high priced as those BJ cars but still respectable. Something maybe more along the lines of these beauties...:

I couldn't agree more Tux. Besides, lots of the cars that are sold on Barrett-Jacson will go to museums around the country. Us "poor boys" will ultimately pay for them through our admission fees to those museums.

I have found over the years that Barrett-Jackson (and the like) has ruined the typical muscle car market for the greater majority of us with that "emotional bidding" we witness as some rich schmuck cannot stand to 'lose' on national TV and will pay whatever it takes no matter the true value of the vehicle he or she is bidding on...and that goes for Vettes as well! Nothing gets my shorts in a bunch quicker than watching idiots bid with loser mentality instead of automobile savoy. Wits%20End Most of those bidding idiots haven't a clue what they have in front of them for a car.

Sorry folks, to this day there is not that $100,000 Corvette out there vice maybe the L88. The 67 BB's...bullcrap! Still not $100,000+ car IMHO! Censored

And we out here, the common Joe and hardworking American, has to pay the price with the colateral damage these auctions cause. Now, because of Barrett-Jackson, every Tom, Dick and Harry and Jo Bob now thinks that rust bucket out in the barn is their $100,000 (or more) golden egg! The rich few take OUR car(s) and ruins the reason for having one. Trying to buy one is a different story...and usually a sad and expensive one.

Barrett-Jackson, Mecom, etc,...pay attention...one of these days, you yourself will price yourself right out of this market and right out of business. Good riddance! Clap

What we need is a grass roots level protest against these yahoos. Yea, yea, yea...the bleeding heart forum and the free enterprise and gouge the American public for all its worth mentality will get snooty with us, but hey, its long overdue that we, the common guy/gal get the used muscle car market back in the hands of the "rightful owners"...US!!! Thumbs%20Up

Now, where was I??? Wacko

I dont wish ill will on to any of those folks at BJ. Friend of mine once said at dinner,"there are too many people with too much money running around".
I told him I call them "roll models!"
Just because someone has a few bucks does not mean he/she cheated others out of it. Besides how many folks do these people employ that wouldnt have a job?

Now I for one am glad to see these cars appreciated for what they are.
Classic pieces of American history.
Maybe more folks will restore and complete these fine automobiles from the barns and garages of America so more of them can live on for generations to come.
I also think its great that the more original the car the more $ it gets.
Again maybe we will see a few less "customs" and a few more "original" cars stay that way.

Yes it would be great to go see the Stones again for $25.
But them days are gone.
