I have been doing some work on a 66 Ford LTD for a friend.
New head gaskets, plugs points wires, fuel sending unit, etc.    Now I think I am finally finished with this turd and take it out for a drive.  Now it is reluctant to shift.  Have to run it up to 50 or 60 and let off a little before it will shift.  Brought it back and found a bad vac. line on the modulator vave and replaced it.  Easy enough but it still won't shift. Any ideas??

Tim, am this a C-6, or an FMX trans?
(C-6 is aluminuminum, the FMX is cast iron)
If the vac is getting to the mod, then that solves that, unless the modulator is bad. If you pull the vac. line off the mod, does fluid run out? If so, it needs to be replaced.
Now...how about the "kick-down" linkage from the carb to the trans? Is it binding up anywhere? Check it with the air cleaner in place. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to get the linkage messed up on the bottom of the air cleaner...happens all the time. Also, make sure there is a return spring on the kick-down linkage at the carb...if there isn't a spring, the linkage will stay down all the time, so the trans will think(do trannys think?) you've got yer foot in it all the time.
If the mod is good, there's good vac to it, and the kick-down linkage is not messed up, the only thing left is either a valve body prollem, or a governor prollem...

Thanks Again for the help Joel.  It was missing the spring for the kickdown.  Seems to bo doing fine now and I intend to return it to it's owner this week and hope to never see it again.
