Over a year and a half after starting to rework "BIGBRRD" it is back in BLACK again...!!!  Take a peek!  The pics don't do justice to the way it really looks.  And it will look even better after the color sand and buff is done!

3 coats of black and 3 double coats of clear went on this week.  Today was the first time I've seen the car all one color in over a year.  Hood, trunk, spoiler, flares and misc little parts still need to be squirted but the bulk of the car is done.  Wayne spent yesterday and today sanding down sags in the clear and then he'll let it sit for a week (while he is out of town) before starting the color sand & buffing process.  Then it will sit for another several weeks before putting the graphics on.

Hope to bring it home late April/early May and then start putting the interior back in.  The plan is to have it ready for the CarCraft Summer Nats in mid-July (this year) over in St. Paul.  Whoo-hoo...!!!

Nice work, Jim...

I've owned two screaming chickens over the years. A 78, and my favorite...an 81 turbo T/A Indy Pace Car.

I can kick myself in the dupa for getting rid of that one.

Can't wait to see yours all finished. Good luck.

Looks good Jim! The longer you can let it sit the better it will be before sticking on the decals.

I sures feels good doesn't it when the paint goes on? The contrast from before primer to after the 1st round of clear is pure kid in the candy store excitment!

Looking good my friend!!!

Thanks all!  Gettin' a bit anxious to get it home and put back together.  But don't want to rush it either.  It has taken a lot longer than we originally thought but it will be worth it.

The YearOne BRE Bandit is an AWESOME ride with an AWESOME window sticker price.  But when you consider each one is a hand-built custom ordered ride I guess you can expect that.  Hope to see one of those in person one day.

The process is takin' longer than anticipated and unfortunately it won't be ready for the CarCraft Summer Nats this weekend.  Unhappy  But progress is being made.

The new weatherstripping has been installed, the t-tops are in, the windows are adjusted so it is water-tight again and the interior above the dash lline is done.  The final color sand and buff was completed last Saturday and then it was hosed down.  Wednesday night hope to get the brakes and power steering bled, drive shaft connected up and greased, and then put it back down on the ground on the Snowflakes.  Then (hopefully) on Saturday the graphics will go on and the hood bolted back in place.  A few other little odds and ends to finish up and it will be ready to roll out for connector pipes to be fabricated, subframe connectors installed, final alignment, and then over to a local Corvette shop to get tuned.

Here'a a couple of shots after its "first bath" last Saturday night.  btw - the reflection of the plate on the rear bumper is not a mirror.  Both are clickable to see larger versions.

We bought "BIGBRRD" in the October of 2004 and drove it straight to the storage facility I'd been keeping "The Toy" at for several winters.  The project work began in the spring of 2005 when I pulled the radiator to have it rebuilt, replaced the exhaust system, and then rebuilt the front and rear suspension.  The 'real' project began when it headed over to the body shop on Father's Day weekend in 2006 and has been there ever since.

Don't know that there will be any burnouts done anytime soon but I'm sure it would be capable of some.  btw - the two pics I posted above are clickable for larger versions.

The original "Bandit" was a '77 SE.  "BIGBRRD" is a 'plain Jane' '78 TA, with a few options.  MYs '77 and '78 were very close to being identical visually but the '78 had the edge in performace as horsepower started to make its return.  The grill changed in '79 for the last time in the 2nd gen and that version was the star in the 2nd S.A.T.B. movie.

Gonna have to start turning over some rocks lookin' for that "Ol' Snowman" purdy soon...!!!

Spent another day at the shop puttin' on parts.  Finished up under the hood and actually fired it up for a few minutes.  Plenty loud without the headers connected to the pipes...!!!  Will go back on Wednesday to put the hood on and some more graphics.  Decided today to leave the "Screamin' Chicken" off the hood for the time being.  Wayne isn't happy with the way the base/clear is setting up on the hood and wants to rework it later in the fall.  Then leave that setup over the winter and put the decal on next spring.

Here's a couple more pics from today (both are clickable for larger versions).  Sure is nice to see it sittin' on the Snowflakes again...!!!
