Hello all.

I have been involved all month with my preparations for the oral and flight check ride with the FAA.

I took Baby (my 82) on her most demanding cross country trip.  It was up I-10 from Tucson
off on the Loop 101 south west of Phoenix and on up to the north east side of the Valley of
the Sun to Scottsdale.  The FAA Flights Standards District Office is located near the Scottsdale
airport.  Baby did fine all the way both ways.  Conditions were high 80*s and moderate traffic
for the way up and 90*s and heavy rush hour traffic for the trip home.  I stayed in a hotel so
I would have a fresh start to the oral exam.

Everything held together and the kick from stepping on her tail was still there.  What a blast.
The speed limits in the city were 55-65 - everybody was moving between stopped and 85.
My break job held up and the TBIs did not give me any trouble. Driving was the best part of the
trip.

The oral was five and a half hours long and the flight on Friday was with the pre flight brief
lasted about two and a half hours.  The whole ordeal was the toughest test I have ever had.
I hope to never have to repeat that.  The results were all positive and I now hold a Certified
Flight Instructor certificate.  All other add-ons can be done locally with a designated examiner.
This first one had to be done with the FAA.

I am very happy with how well Baby is running.  She has a great idle 600-800 rpm with AC on
or off and is running very well on regular gas.  By the way, there were lots of corvettes out
and about on this trip.  I got many waves and lots of lookers.

A good week.  Thanks to all on the forum who has helped me get Baby purring.

All the Best from Tucson.

Keith

Double Congrats! First, on passing your test, and secondly on how well you have the Vette running! These cars are so much fun when they're running right! It's great you get to enjoy it as much as you do!

Thumbs UpThumbs Up  Congratulations on both parts. Must of took a lot of hard work and studying to endure the questions they must have thrown at ya. Being able to fly always fascinated me but higher education just wasn't in the cards for me. So I'll just have to be content to do my flying in the Vette. Glad to hear that the Vette ran well on the trip also.

Thanks Barry and Jeff.

Well,  I am looking forward to replacing the cruise control module.  I have the vacuum
blocked off and that was the last piece of the high idle problems. It has been replaced
once and did not fix the problem.  However, the original worked sometimes. So, I'm
thinking I got a bad rebuilt unit and I was early in learning about the car. Lots of other
problems and I just left that one hanging.

Flying is a lot of fun but, like anything, to do it well takes practice and a good teacher.
And, in this case....  $$$sss.

Thanks again.

Keith

Good on you Keith
With summer just around the corner when you coming back to San Diego for a visit. We will have to do Breakfast with the wifes this time or they may not let us get together we spend about 3 hours I believe.

Ill add my congratulations as well Keith Clap.  It's strange you posted this when you did.  I was thinking about you yesterday morning and trying to remember the last post you made. My intent was to send you a PM but never got around to it.

Congratulations.  The Scottsdale GATO was where I took all my paperwork to get my Citation ATP.  Oddly enough, I was living in Tucson (O-2's at D-M) at the time.  What are you flying?

Getting a private ticket was something I was going to chase a long time ago but it is looking like it won't happen in this lifetime.  Still enjoy watching and listening to aircraft though.  If you ever make the pilgrimage to Oshkosh some summer let me know and I'll try to meet you there.

Thanks for all of the positive thoughts.

I've been flying off and on since the late 70s.
I met a guy that was just finishing up his commercial and got the bug. We did a lot of
flying the 2.5 years I was stationed at Luke AFB west of Phoenix. But, two striper pay
was pretty slim then and I had school loans to pay off. I made sure to call him first thing.

I finished the private 8 years ago and have been fortunate to be able to continue to this point.
I took the test in a Cessna R182 - High Performance - Complex to meet the requirements.
Most of my time has been in C-172s and lately Vans RV-10 and RV-6.  I have just a smidgen of
time in a DC-3 and a Beech 18.

I don't think I'll be getting to San Diego or Wisconsin this year.  We will see what the
new job holds.  I need to complete CFI-I Instrument but, that is a much more limited
scope to prepare. My instrument and commercial instructor and I would get out and fly
anytime we could including IMC.  Living on Cape Cod there were plenty of low ceiling days
where we had the place to ourselfs and the pros.

Baby continues to run well and we have not had rain in a while so she stays dusty but clean.
I made sure to renew the AAA.  Thanks again for the good wishes.

All the Best.

Keith

Clap KUDOS to you my friend. Aren't you glad you do not have to endure all the rederick to drive the four wheeler?  I am sure the rush is not the same, but the smile is much deeper. Enjoy them both.
