More often now, when I go to start my MDX, when I turn the key, dash lights up but starter doesn't attempt a start at all.  I have to move the steering wheel  a bit, then turn the key again while holding the wheel in that position.

I'm guessing it is some sort of sensor for the key code or something.

Any ideas?

I actually had a similar problem with my Lexus. I found that when the car is off, and there is even the slightest bit of turning force on the steering wheel, it would not only lock the steering wheel, but is also prevents the car from starting. Next time you have your problem, try moving the steering wheel to see if that allows you to get going. I occasionally have to do this.

You have to turn the wheel, or tilt the wheel(assuming it has tilt)?
The ign switch is part of the key cylinder on that, if I remember right.
Do you only have one key, or can you try a different key when this happens next?
When you get time, P/M me with the year & engine size, and I'll punch it up on the shop 'puter, and see if there are any TSBs for it...
