Pam's been wanting a new car for awhile now but I can't get her to buy one, she's the smart one in the family Wink  She wanted a sporty little car, something like a Saturn Sky but is not totally ruling out a newer Vette.  Well thank you to the person who bought this New Car with "Buy it Now" before I did something stupid LOL

I said I know I don't like those but that would have been her car anyways.

Oh she wants a new car and shes going to come around one day soon, I hoping her Crysler breaks down on her.  I think that car would have been a nice car for her.  2004 with only 9k miles not bad huh?

And oh ya Dave, I've already talked her out of a RED Corvette, shes looking for a Dark Blue or Black Car Thumbs%20Up

I am not a fan of black, but that one is gorgous.
I wonder how hot it gets driving around in the desert.
For the number of miles on it, it doesn't show any wear.
If you can get for less than $20K, I think it would be a good deal.

One thing ya'll need to watch out for is previous "performance upgrades" on these late model cars. Not all work out well, and some actually render the car useless, until someone with some intelligence sorts it out($$$). It's easy to bolt on a bunch of stuff that promises 25-50hp for each part...it's hard to make it all work together and not wind up with less than what it started with. Also, most of the cars with all this stuff on em have been rode hard and put up wet. Not saying that any car with mods is gonna be a heartache/money pit, but just watch out, bubba is everywhere.

Hang in there Mark(and you too, Karen!)...you'll be a member of the "Two or More" club afore ya know it! Adams' Apple2008-06-09 21:04:24

Thanks for the advise brudda Thumbs%20Up  I am very leary of a Vette that have had mods made to them, it's a sign to me that someone has been hot-rodding the thing somewhere down the road.  I'd really perfer a completely stock C5, which I will find.  Micki can you believe I said that, it's not for me, it's for Pam Wink

Does anyone (Joel?) know what year they started putting onStar in Vettes?

My Corvette Black Book only goes to 1998, but there is no sign of On Star or HUD for '97 or '98.
Who has a current Black Book?

Check out the C5 section of that other forum and you'll see how they big craze is adding mods to their cars. I agree that you should look for a stock example. When my time comes, I'll probably try to get one coming off a lease.

Yes, Mark..I can believe you said that!!  A C5, huh??Shocked  One thing I can't believe is that's it for Pam.LOL  Once you drive it, you will want to drive it AGAIN (trust me, I'm a lawyerLOLLOL).  I lucked into my Black 2000 C5 Coupe.  The air works so good in those things that when I get out of the car and into the heat, it fogs up my glasses!LOLLOL

Joel is right, don't buy a C5 with mods on it......its got to be a disaster from a Bubba Owner.OuchDead  So far, mine's been a good car.  I know in 2000 you could get HUD, cuz I have it on mine.  Mine came loaded to the hilt (the big package).  When I buy another vette, and if it's a new one, I HAVE to have HUD - I'm spoiled with that now!

Keep lookin' and if I see anything at a good price with no mods and in good shape, I'll pass it on!Big%20smileWink

You could get Pam one of these:

I keep trying to tell my wife's friends that I want to buy her a Corvette, but it's not working.

A note about OnStar - and keep in mind, I know next to nothing.  I have heard that with the change to all digital TV signals next year, some of the older OnStar units will no longer work as they use some of the frequencies that are affected.  If you're looking at a car with OnStar, make sure it will work in the long run.

Your right Marshall, the older vehicles with oStar are going to need upgrades of some kind, my 07 Avalanche won't.

I wanted the wifes new car to have onStar in it, but its looking like she may get onStar anyways in the form of a 07 Avalanche.  We are leaning towards me getting a used car Wink (Black Vert) and shes getting a nicer more equiped truck, my truck.

Why does she want On Star?

A good GPS is cheaper and there are no annual fees.
Most of the world carries a cell phone.
Apple I phone does both plus the internet.

Just curious....

Lock outs
Satalite phone service
Air bag deployment notification

Just a few reasons.  I want her to have it more then she wants it.  Almost all of my drive home to and from work is through the backwoods of Ft Lewis and I get no cell phone reception but my phone service through onStar she tells me is clearer then a landline connection.

Even know I want a Black, I mean Pam wants a Black Vert, that 2003 looks like a nice car for the price.  I know the auction hasn't ended but I don't expect it to go that much higher.  Sure would be cool to have a 25th Anniversary and a 50th Anniversary Thumbs%20Up

I think this Red 50th Anniversary has some issues, some maybe minor but I don't know why their replacing a water pump on an 03 with 30,000 miles, check this free CarFax on it.  What do you think, is this a Friday car?  My sister had a certified Corvette Lemon bought back by GM.

Oh ya Larry, a friend of yours is trying to sell me the C5 at Titus-Will Chev.  You know Brian Johnson?  Hes the salesman that I took a ride with today in the Vette.

I drove the Black C5 in Olympia, seemed to ride well (but I no expert) lotsa powa.  I think it's got 37k miles and the body needs a really good buffing.  There is one spot on the trunk that has some scratches, but the rest of the car looks good.  Heres some pictures.  Tell me what you think.

Brian is a used car salesman, very professional and as much as I know a very straight shooter, he'll be as fair and up front as any.  if you are serious i would dicker for them to buff it out, repair the scratches, did you look at there 03 z06 they have also, think that is the year, think it was 27900. larry
Ya Micki, I'll catch hell if I buy a Red Vette Confused But it sure is purdy.  Which Black coupe are you talking about?  The first one I linked sold, and the last black one was a Vert also.
Oh, I thought the second one was a coupe.....sorry.  Does the black one at the Dealer's have any receipts with it from the last owner?  So you liked the way it drove?

On the red anniversary car, the one they replaced the water pump.....well, sometimes the C5's (most of them) have a little problem with the belts and they will squeek.  A lot of times a place will replace the water pump thinking this will cure the belt when actually it's the tensioner/belt.  A gator back belt will cure the problem, but a lot of people don't know this.  Go figure...Confused

I don't know if the black vert had any reciepts, I didn't ask.  I'm not sure about it right now, they are asking 32.9k.  I'm thinking thats a bit much for a Vette with 40k miles.  I know thats not a real lot but I've seen a lot less miles on the same year for less money.  I'm not gonna jump on the first Vette I find that I like and I don't know if I wanna buy another outta state on eBay.  Although my 07 Avalanche was a great deal off eBay.

I like everything that I can see about that car clear down to the EBAY front plate.....

But.... what about you?

Is the milage where you want it?
Is the price reasonable for the age of the car?
Have you made an offer???

Happy Hunting Mark!!!

The milage seems about right for a 1999, a little more then we want but it's not bad.  I've been looking at a lot of C5's and the price also seems about average for a Vette that age.  I havn't made an offer to them yet but sure did send them a ton of questions.

Has anyone else noticed anything about this Vette?

Is this a better buy for about $1000 more?  This 03 has about the same miles but is 4 years newer and closer.  I could actually fly down and drive this one back over the 4th of July weekend.

I'd really rather have a Black Vert since I already have a Black Coupe. But, I'd also like a 50th Annversary to go with my 25th Anniversary.

Hay Mark that Black 2003 looks real good. The only thing I could see is the front seats have the normal leather wrinkles and slight faded wear on the lower sections, nothing some nice seat covers couldn't cure. You might be able to bargain a little on this one.

Mark, Have you checked out www.collectorcartraderonline.com ? This is a pretty good site, you can search for exactly what you are looking for and by location.

Well the search is over, I lost the fight Confused  I'm happy for her, she ended up with a much better car for the price actually.  All that really matters is that shes happy with the car, its going to be her daily driver anyways so a Vette probably wasn't our best bet.  Here's what Pam got.

Well with gas prices and being a daily driver it's not that bad of a choice. At least it's in the same family as a Vette.Thumbs%20Up
