Over the past six months or so, I've gotten the equivilant of a couple of free tanks of gas. Considering my Silverado can take well over 20 gallons, that's really saying something.
Kroger offers points for purchases in their stores. Those points can then be redeemed for money off at their gas stations. $.10 for every hundred spent doesn't cut into things that much, but I'll tell you what does...
From time to time (it may be all the time, not sure), Kroger offers FOUR TIMES fuel points when you buy gift cards. If you're ever needing to give a gift card, buy an iTunes card, etc, I always do it at Kroger - they're the same price everywhere, so why not. But how do you really rack up the points? Major Purchases! About six months ago, our Fridge went on the blink. I went to Home Depot to see what they had and found the perfect one for a great price. I told the guy to hold it for me and that I'd be right back. I ran to Kroger and bought hundreds of dollars of Home Depot gift cards, then went back to the store!
I did the same thing recently when I was making a major e-bay purchase. Kroger sells e-bay cards, which makes things easier (and faster) than transfering money to your PayPal account.
You'll be surprised at what you can buy and use gift cards for. You can use the points for up to a dollar off at a time and the points last through the end of the next calendar month (so try to either make the big purchases towards the beginning of the month or at least use them fast). It doesn't hurt that my Kroger is slowest to raise prices, so that after prices go up in the afternoon, I can usually still find the un-raised price early the next morning there.
Hope this idea works for you. Not sure if other grocery stores across the US do this, or to what extent Kroger does this at their other locations Nationwide. Good luck!
