I am not much of a real tech guy.
And presently have a Tracfone pay as you go.
  Real simple to use and just add my minutes every 90 days.

I was in  Walmart and see they are selling a Droid thru Straight Talk.
Unlimited phone usage is $45/ mo.
Cost of the phone is $150.

Just thought it might be fun to try.

You don't need to very specific... just give me a general idea of the differences
 and what you think of the Walmart deal thru Straight Talk.

The iPhone is an Apple product...beyond that they do essentially the same thing...just different operating systems built in.  To me it's a matter of the best plan and service from the provider more than what make phone.

What are you going to use the phone for? Is it simply to talk? If that's the case, then a "smartphone" is not for you. Youl'll be paying for features you won't use - web browsing, texting, email, etc. It is difficult to find a phone nowadays that is just for talking. The major players want you to not only talk, but text, get email, browse, FB, Twitter, music, videos, etc. If you just want to talk, check with wireless carriers who may have "basic" phones available, or a low level smartphone. It's getting harder and harder to find these phones. Depending on the provider, calling packages are determined by the number of minutes/mo you want, as well as the number of phones you have. The data packages usually start around $30.00/mo and up IN ADDITION to the calling package. My wife has a basic phone with 450 min/mo and unlimited texting for $45.00/mo through Verizon. Both the Droid and iPhone have all the 'bell and whistle' features. As someone said, the operating systems are different. They both basically do the same things. I know several people with Droids. I've had a Blackberry and now have an iPhone. I have to say I like the iPhone better, but that's just me. EDIT: What happened to my formatting?

I agree completely, if all you want is to talk then just get a phone.  I have a phone and for work a smart phone.  The company pays for it.  I picked it out (HTC phone)  I needed to have the ability to connect my computer to it (make it a wireless hub)  If it was not for that I would have stayed with a simple phone.  Mine is way to complex for me.  I am learning things like it will let me use voice to send text messages.  I can do that.  It lets me get my email but I'm at my computer most of the day anyway so it is just a pain in the a** to clean that up.  It comes down to what you want to use it for like what was said earlier.  The only thing I really like about it is the on line Bible.  It is easier to use than my kindle.  Of course I can use it as a kindle but why when I have a kindle. 

The other think if I use it as a wireless hub I had better be close to someplace to plug it in. Battery life goes south real quick if you start using your phone as a computer for anything.

the smart phones are not as handy to carry around.  Just my to bits.

My son used to sell those things, and he says just comparing phone to phone he would go with the Droid (which he has). Plans, costs & etc. you need to compare prices.

Just traded upo my iPhone 3G for a 4s. Love it!!  I'm a major gadget guy...

I would suggest that the distinction is in the operating system , both more or less proprietary with the iphones being Apple and the droids being Google.  I never used an iphone but have owned several droids.  I became uncomfortable with the Google aspects and switched to a Windows Phone.  I orked on multiple Microsoft Windows based platforms for a number of years so feel at home with this phone.  My provider is Sprint which will support almost any phone so it is a decision as to what you are comfortable with and whar you want to pay.  Good luck and let me know if you think I can help you with anything.
