I tried to post several times in the last week without success. The frustration meter is ready to peak big time.

It happens to a lot of us I think off and on.  That is why I write long posts in MicroSoft Word then paste them in.  If it gives me the "you do not belong" thing Disapprove.  I just have to log off then back on and paste it in.  Does not solve the problem but it does solve a lot of the frustration. Thumbs Up

Sounds like a Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) line grasshopper. Thumbs Up  By the way my uncle who graduated with him said he was a great guy.  He would always respond to letters and kept in touch with his classmates.

Kind of reminds me of some of what this forum is like.  Hug

Off topic but great advice  "Patience, Grasshoppers..."  all things will work out or become unimportant with time.  PS got the bloody error twice Censored trying to put in my to bits on this post.

Thank ebo for starting this thread.  It a lot of fun so far. May be we could get your permission taken away more often.   Adam said as soon as we were done with you he would put them back.

It seems faster because it is...for now. Once the sponsor ads/banner go up, page load time will increase slightly. There are a few new features, too..look around, see what you can see.

This is the second time I wrote this....got that med "Access Denied" message the first time, and since I thought that had been fixed, I dint "Copy" my post....

I was not on any other sites at that time...no multiple windows open. Just logged in, and typed in my reply.

I'm sure all of that kind of stuff is gonna be a temporary deal. Once the bugs Adam is chasing are found/fixed/given up on, he'll have time to fine-tune everything. It's a work in progress.
Thanks for the hard work, Boss!

I got the e-mail, Joel, that still doesn't mean I didn't freak out. I knew it wasn't GONE, but if you can't use it, it is gone. I did go to the Oriole game tonight (I'm a glutton for punishment, aren't I?).

I haven't quite fixed the problem, but I've added something that I think should help prevent people form losing their posts.

If you've ever noticed on the message form, to the left of the post button, every few seconds you'll see a little moving circle.  That is supposed to be keeping your connection to the site alive while you enter your post.  However, at exactly 10 minutes (if you're just sitting on the page, or typing the post in, but haven't clicked any buttons yet) that little circle will change to a message that says "Error connecting to server."  It is at this point, while that message is displayed, if you click the "Post" button, you will receive the Access Denied message and your post will be gone.

What I've done is added code that will disable the "Post" button (so you can not accidentally submit your post while the connection is lost) and the message will say "Error connecting to server. Try clicking Preview button, then wait about 15 seconds, to reconnect."  In my testing, it seems that if you click the preview button, it will show a preview of your post and reconnect to the server.  The "Post" button will then become enabled and you should be able to click it, your post will save and you will not lose it.

I'm curious, though if any of you ever see this "Error connecting to server message" BEFORE 10 minutes have passed.  If you care to test it, open a New post, reply or quick reply page... type the current time in the message box so you don't forget what time you started this test.  Then wait.  Keep your eye on the little circle next to the Post button.  Does it ever change to the "Error" message?  If so, how long has it been since you typed the time into the message box? 10 minutes? More? Less?  Let me know.

Thanks!

(Interestingly, as I type this, I've received the message. I think it was 10 minutes, but I'm not sure.)

I've never actually timed it, but I can assure you it has appeared for me a way less than 10 minutes. I have seen the "Loading" text in that same spot, when it comes up every few seconds.

Then again... Angry
Immediately after posting this, I went in to Edit the post...and got the "Error Connecting to Server" message. This happens within SECONDS. Let's see if this one goes thru, cause I gotta git back to werk...It did NOT dis-able the Post button, either.

Joel,
What color was the "Error connecting to server" message? Red or Black? Did it also say "Try clicking the preview button..." or just "Error connecting to server?"

What browser? Firefox, I'm guessing.

I just loaded up firefox, and I can tell already the button disabling is working. I wonder if you need to clear your cache.

So Adam,
you are asking me to wait and watch for ten or more minutes of my life that I cant get back! LOL

Actually I have never seen the circle before today. Maybe I just never noticed it, but now I see it for a brief second about every 30 seconds. I dont think I had that before?
I typed a message back that I let sit for 16 minutes and everything worked fine.
Nice job, now if I could only get those 16 minutes back!
Rodney

"Error Connecting to Server" is always black, for me. On my earlier post, when it happened, I noticed it at the same time I hit the "Post" button...then it went to the "Access Denied" page. NO "Try Clicking the Preview Button".
Firefox & Windows XP at that time(shop laptop)
Weird thing about it was, I had let the post sit for 20 minutes while I was out driving a car, then came back and clicked Post, and it went thru no problem. Once it posted, I hit "Edit", added some other stuff, and saw the "Error Connecting to Server"....

Time now is 9.09pmCST and NOW I am seeing the little circle of lines, alternating with the "Error connecting" message....back & forth. When It shows the Error connecting message, it throws the page off to the left......I've never had that happen before. Time now is 9.11pmCST....

NOW it is 9.17...I'm STILL trying to post this message.
I cleared my cache yesterday, btw....

Clear your cache again now.
I made the change this afternoon.

If it is still black for you after that, something else is weird.

So do we think the problem is solved?
I have to say I don't recall getting the message recently.

Anyone have any troubles this week so far? I'm doing pretty well, with no errors/access denied to this point, after clearing the cache. Of course, doing that means it take FOR-EVER to load the pages, but it's getting better with time, and all of the info is being restored.
One issue I have is my "Home" page for C3VR has changed now...it is no longer the "Active Topics" page, as it has been for years...it is the "24 Hour" page....I just haven't gone and changed it back yet...because, as you know....I'm LAZY!!!
But anywho...I think Boss-man has solved the "Error Message/Access Denied" issue. Thanks, Adam!!Clap

Hi Joel.... Everything good here.  I have stopped copy/paste my posts - use the preview and see the activity with the Post Reply blinking.  Great!

I do sorta miss the yellow highlighted today on the post replies.  Smile

The new features all seem to work as I would expect.  Very cool.

All the Best!

Keith
