NCRS Hosts Regional Event at Museum

The National Corvette Restorers Society is holding their 2013 Southeast Regional this week at the National Corvette Museum.  Over 60 Corvettes are expected to participate in various judging categories such as Flight Judging, Performance Verification, Bow Tie Judging for Originality, American Heritage Award, Founder's Award, and Sportsman Award.  The NCRS Regional's Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday evening at the Corvette Museum's Conference Center.  The Southeast Regional event is a very important judging event for the organization, and the results will lead to the 2013 NCRS National Convention scheduled for July 21-25 in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Corvette Raffle Winner Feature - Dick Murphy

Dick Murphy, like many of our Museum supporters, is also a dedicated Corvette raffle ticket buyer. “It’s hard to say how many tickets I’ve purchased over the years, but I am confident that I spent at least $2,000-3,000 prior to winning,” said Murphy. Murphy, from the Houston, Texas area, won our “Build Your Own 2012 Z06 or Grand Sport” raffle with lucky ticket #490, drawn on Thursday, January 26, 2012.

Murphy is no stranger to Corvettes, as prior to winning he already owned three C3’s; a 1971 LT1 Convertible, 1973 Coupe with a 454 engine and a modified 1981 that Murphy uses as his daily driver. He enjoys working on his older cars and making modifications, but admits that he is a bit intimidated by his new Z06’s level of technology. “The older cars give me something to work on as they pretty much only rely on spark and gas to run; the new car is so computerized it is well beyond my ability and comprehension to even consider working on. On cars 30 to 40 years old, there’s always something to replace or fix. It’s hard to imagine what I could possibly do to make the Z06 any better than it already is!”

NCRS Joins the One Acre Club

Founded in 1974 by seven Corvette enthusiasts in a bar, the National Corvette Restorers Society is now the leader in gathering and publishing Corvette restoration and historical information for its members. Members receive quarterly issues of the award winning "Corvette Restorer" Magazine, the bi-monthly" NCRS Driveline" Magazine,  the “NCRS Catalog” with discounted books as well as countless opportunities to attend events and further their love and knowledge of restoring Corvettes.

“The NCRS was enthusiastic in becoming a member of the One Acre Club for the NCM Motorsports Park,” says Dana Forrester, National Corvette Restorers Society Board Representative to NCM. “We have strived to be a leading force in the Corvette hobby and culture since its founding, and also took a leadership role in the earliest beginnings of the National Corvette Museum.  Even though our prime focus is on the preservation and restoration of early Corvettes, a large number of members own and are enthusiastic about newer model Corvettes as well.  Becoming a member of the One Acre Club shows our support and also serves to advance our organization in the Corvette hobby.

We are very excited about the NCM Motorsports Park project, and can’t wait for future events at the Park. We’re also very excited about having our NCRS Regional event at the Museum this week, and the upcoming exhibit of NCRS Corvettes at the Museum from May to September.”
