Lynda Patterson Donates 40th Anniversary Corvette

20th AnniversaryWhen Lynda Patterson saw photos and videos of the 40th Anniversary Corvette swallowed by the Museum's sinkhole, it was like looking at her own car. "It was quite a shock," Lynda said. "Seeing that other Ruby in the hole made me think that maybe I should give ours to the Museum soon. Almost twenty years ago my husband Mike and I designated that our Ruby would go to the National Corvette Museum anyway. He died in 2012 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor a year earlier."

Lynda made the call, and on April 17 she delivered the car to the Museum. Fighting back happy tears, Lynda was overcome with emotion, "This is bitter-sweet. I'm so glad she's coming here and will be enjoyed by so many. Some people may not get why I'd be so emotional about it, but it is more than a car... it is memories."

Read more about Lynda's donation online here.

If you have been considering donating your vehicle to the Museum, you can read some of our frequently asked questions online here.

WKU Geologists Monitor Museum Pond Water

As part of the effort to assess and remediate the cause of the sinkhole collapse at the Museum, Western Kentucky University is collecting data to research various environmental factors contributing to the cause and evolution of the sinkhole. "These types of collapse features are common in karst regions, like south-central Kentucky, where water flows underground and forms caves and voids as it dissolves away the bedrock," said Dr. Jason Polk.

Many visitors may wonder what the team of scientists are doing in "Elfi's Pond" by the Museum so we asked Dr. Polk to tell us a little about the new submersible water monitoring sonde (the EXO II from YSI Incorporated) that they are using to gather data. You can read about these efforts on our blog here.

Thanks to Dr. Polk, Paul Nieberding (Fondriest Environmental) and Brandon Smith (YSI Incorporated) for working together to help our beloved building!
