When at Road America last year Board and Lifetime Member Ivan Schrodt had an idea. He noticed that the 1972 GT Racer the Museum had brought for display (donated by Leon Hurd and driven by Doug Bethke, winning the GT1 SCCA National Championships in 1981 an 1982) was not running. "Everyone else (with vintage cars) was driving. It would be nice if we could have driven it out."
This gave Ivan and wife Mary the idea to establish an endowment, specifically for the restoration and upkeep of Museum-owned Corvettes.
"With the Museum serving a broad spectrum of Corvette interests, I think there are some unrecognized costs. The cost of keeping vintage vehicles in operating condition is one."
Ivan added that with the Motorsports Park progressing, seeing some of the historic Corvettes, particularly vintage racers, on that track doing parade laps would be nice. "We also do not yet have an area in the Museum where visitors can see vintage Corvettes being restored. So while I do not want to distract donations from our current key project, getting our Motorsports Park up and running, I think starting to plan for restoration activities would be a good thing. Hopefully other folks will be interested in helping fund this part of the Museum's mission as well."
“We want to continue to be able to maintain the vehicles we have and restore some of our significant cars that were donated but not in running condition,” added Roc Linkov.
