Museum Hosts Wounded Warriors

Working with Melissa Swift from the Fort Knox Wounded Warrior Transition Battalion, 22 wounded warriors were treated to a day at the NCM last Thursday. It was a welcome getaway for those soldiers still in rehabilitation after being wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. They received a tour at the plant, a tour of the Museum, lunch and $50 gift cards as a “thank you” for their service.

“We like the idea of doing big events for veterans,” said Museum Director Wendell Strode, “but we plan to do more of these smaller events too so that those in transition from Fort Knox to hospitals closer to their homes can enjoy the Museum as well. We want to do something to brighten their day and to let them know that we care.”

"I love cars and was a heavy construction mechanic in the Army,” she says. “So being at the Museum makes me want to get my tools out and get to work again."

One Acre Club Spotlight: Jack and Dor DeLong

Lifetime and Duntov Society members Jack and Dor DeLong love the NCM. “If you own a Corvette, then this is your Museum,” Jack says. “The events are great and the camaraderie that we have experienced here with people from all over the country is fantastic.”

The DeLongs are just as enthusiastic about the Motorsports Park. “It’s really all about the legacy,” Jack says. “It’s about what we can create together that we can leave behind for others. When Corvette Racing’s Doug Fehan did his presentation on the Motorsports Park it made me realize that the importance of this track to the Corvette world cannot be overstated. For drivers’ education, recreation, testing, hot laps or just learning to get the fun out of your car, this is something we are all going to be very proud of when it is done.”

Education Endowment Match Offered

Though Eugene Nagowski and late wife Pat had no children of their own, to honor Pat's memory he's started an education endowment at the Museum for underprivileged kids, hoping other members of the Museum will add to it. To encourage participation of individuals and clubs Eugene is offering to match each donation, dollar-for-dollar - up to $5,000.

"It would be so wounderful if we could get enough money together to where the interest could be used for helping children. I've been blessed with so much, that it just seems like the right thing to do," said Eugene.

Interest from the endowment will eventually fund field trips for groups like Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, pay for educational outreach to kids who aren't able to visit the Museum, fund teen driver classes for low income students and more.

Help us reach Eugene's match! Click here to donate online.
