September 11, 2001 Exhibit Opens at NCM

Where were you on September 11, 2001? Chances are, you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing as that fateful day evokes strong emotions in many people.

This weekend the Museum opens a special tribute featuring a timeline of events, personal accounts and artifacts on loan from the New York State Museum.

In honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and those in our military who have made the ultimate sacrifice since, we are inviting Corvette Enthusiasts who have some direct connection to this pivotal day in history to share their stories for possible publication in the next issue of America's Sports Car magazine. To participate, please send your stories of 300 words or less along with any relevant photograph to editor@corvettemuseum.org. Please indicate if you wish to use your name or if you'd rather stay anonymous. Don't worry about your writing style, spelling or grammar, as we will edit each one to fit the space allowed. Please also consider paying your respects here at the NCM during the September 11, 2001: A Global Moment Exhibit running now through October 28, 2012.

Emerald Coast Corvette Club Joins One Acre Club

Frank VanDevander, President of the Emerald Coast Corvette Club in Panama City, Florida, is proud of his club and the way they’ve stepped up to support the Museum and the Motorsports Park. “Our club is small, just 60 families, but it is very active. We love getting out with our Corvettes and many of us believe they are high performance cars that should be enjoyed as such. So when we saw that the Museum was going to build a track, we wanted to be a part of it. Since we go there already once a year as a club, we just saw that as a great thing to add to all that we already enjoy about the Museum.”

Frank is eagerly awaiting the day when his club can apply these donations to track time. “This isn’t just about the Motorsports Park,” he says. “While it is a great thing, this is really about supporting the Museum. It is the only one of its kind in the world and it is ours.  That’s the ultimate thing. If our smaller club can amass the funds to participate in this, imagine what all the clubs can do combined.”

Illinois/Iowa Caravan Captain Named

Good news for the Illinois/Iowa caravan participants.  Thomas "Glen" Rowe and his wife, Chris, have agreed to head up the caravan in 2014.

The Rowes hail from Port Barrington, IL, where they have been life long residents.  Glen is no stranger to Corvettes and automobiles as he is the owner of Casten Body Shops and was instrumental in professionalizing the body shop business in Illinois.  This will be Glen's first go at being captain but he was a participant in the 2009 caravan and enjoyed it so much he couldn't stand by and watch it go unattended in 2014.  He will be ably assisted by Tim and Mary Gertz who also made the journey to Bowling Green in 2009.  Although Steve Green regrettably had to opt out as captain, he has graciously volunteered to help Glen in any capacity he can provide.  All in all, this is a very strong team that make this caravan one of the best yet.  You won't miss Glen at the head of the pack as his Velocity Yellow Z06 is not to be ignored.  Please give Glen and his team all the assistance you can muster to ensure a great caravan.
