Two Hall of Fame Corvettes Unveiled
Each Labor Day weekend the National Corvette Museum hosts an induction ceremony for the Corvette Hall of Fame - and for the 3rd year in a row Chevrolet has created special Corvettes to commemorate the induction of their shining stars.
This year Chevrolet created two special Corvettes - one celebrating former Corvette Racing Driver Johnny O'Connell, and one celebrating former GM Corvette Assembly Plant Manager Wil Cooksey.
Johnny's 2014 Commemorative Corvette is a Cyber Gray Stingray with new Jake emblem on the hood, "STINGRAY" across the windshield, yellow calipers, and special Team Corvette and Hall of Fame graphics on the doors.
Wil's 2014 Corvette gives a nod to the 2008 Wil Cooksey Limited Edition Corvette bearing a Crystal Red exterior.
Chevrolet Corvette Product Marketing Manager said there are some aspects of the car that they can't yet disclose. Check out more photos of the cars on our Facebook. |
Del & Ileen Bunce Join One Acre Club
In memory of her late husband, Del Bunce, Ileen Bunce has become a proud member of our One Acre Club. Former residents of Bardstown, Ky., Del and Ileen were active members of the River Cities Corvette Club in Louisville, Ky. Both Del and Ileen were dedicated volunteers at the National Corvette Museum until Del’s retirement, when they moved back to Idaho to be closer to family. After their move, Del and Ileen continued to be involved with the Museum as ambassadors-at-large, and also got their local Corvette club in Idaho connected with the Museum. Del served on the NCM Board of Directors for five years.
Even prior to their Museum involvement, Del was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma cancer and told that he had only a few months left to live. He did his research and developed his own treatment program which allowed him to live for almost 21 more years. Although he had never been a runner before, during chemotherapy treatment in Naperville, Ill. Del set a goal to run the Boston Marathon by age 50. He achieved that goal in 1992 and ran several other marathons over the years, including another Boston, as running became a passion. Two years ago, however, Del’s health unexpectedly deteriorated and he passed away at the age of 68.
Because of their shared commitment to America’s Sports Car and their extensive involvement with the Museum and their local Corvette clubs, Ileen felt that purchasing an Acre for the new Motorsports Park project was the perfect way to honor her late husband.
“Those days of spending time at the National Corvette Museum with Del and our poodle, Cassie, have become fond memories. I continue to hold the museum and all those who have made it what it is today close to my heart. We lost Del on August 14, 2011. The Corvette community and I lost a wonderful person. That is why I joined the Motorsports Park One Acre Club in his memory.”
Only 17 acres remain in the "One Acre Club" program. Will your name be included on the donor wall at the Motorsports Park? |

The two-hour race is the seventh round of the American Le Mans Series and the second street race of the season. One of the newest venues on the ALMS calendar has been kind to Corvette Racing with podium finishes in the event’s first two years.
ALMS GT championship leaders Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner - who lives 90 minutes from Baltimore in his native Virginia - drive the No. 4 Compuware Corvette that has won two races this season. Meanwhile, Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen look to win for the second time in 2013 with their No. 3 Corvette. The pair stands fourth in the drivers’ standings but only six points out of first place.
With four races remaining in the ALMS season, positions and points are at a premium. In addition to the drivers’ championship, Chevrolet leads the GT manufacturers’ standings, as does Corvette Racing in the team category.
The Inner Harbor circuit measures 2.02 miles in length with 12 turns. The long frontstretch features a temporary chicane to slow cars before crossing a light-rail line prior to start-finish and a hard right-hander for Turn 1. The course also features a tight hairpin turn and a run around Camden Yards - home of Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles.
