East Region NCCC Joins One Acre Club

The National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) consists of over 17,000 members throughout the country. The East Region, which includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, is the largest chapter in terms of membership. The officers, governors and members of the East Region chapter voted to support the buying of an “Acre” for many reasons. One of the main motivating factors is the emotional connection to the Corvette that has played a large part in each of their lives.

With this connection in mind, the officers and governors of the East Region of NCCC wanted to make a meaningful contribution to help preserve the Corvette and show what it has meant to each one of them. “What better way to celebrate this car than supporting The National Corvette Museum?,” said John Cantelmo, Chair of the NCM Ambassadors for the East Region of NCCC. “We felt that joining the “One Acre Club” was a fitting way to celebrate the friends we have made, the excitement the hobby has provided and it would help create a legacy for future generations of Corvette owners to experience. The NCM Motorsports Park will provide many Corvette drivers a venue to learn the capabilities of their cars while operating them under the guidance of an instructor and in a safe environment. We believe that the Park will enhance and bring the Corvette ownership experience to a whole new level.”

Welcome New Board Members

This month two Museum supporters and Corvette enthusiasts officially joined the NCM Board of Directors. Taking the seats previously filled by Len Tucker and Ivan Schrodt are Paul Herzing of Gibsonia, PA and Lon Helton of Nashville, TN.

Paul's background is in the oil and gas industry and his community service includes involvement with the Boy Scouts. His first experience with the Museum was in 2008 when he purchased a Z06 and received a free trial membership with the car. His wife surprised him for his birthday with a trip to the Museum. Later when they ordered a new ZR1 they participated in an R8C Delivery, upgrading their Family Membership to a Lifetime Membership. More recently they joined the Motorsports Park One Acre Club. Paul's challenge to other members is that everyone recruit at least one new member for 2013.

Lon's career has been centered around country music, serving as a DJ in several communities before moving to Nashville in 1983. In 2006 he launched "Country Aircheck", a radio and music industry trade publication and currently hosts Country Countdown USA. He has been named CMA's National Personality of the Year five times, the Academy of Country Music National Personality for 2009 and 2012, and was inducted into the Country Music DJ Hall of Fame in 2006. He has served on a number of boards including for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and Country Music Association. He owns several Corvettes and comes to several NCM events each year. Lon served as co-organizer of our Country Music Stars and Cars exhibit as well.

Welcome new Board Members!

Corvette Store Featured Item

"60 Years of Spark" Giclee Print by Dana Forrester. "60 Years of Spark celebrates Corvette’s 60th Anniversary by displaying a 2013 60th Anniversary Edition 427 Convertible. I saw this a very popular model in my last tour of the Corvette Assembly Plant and their production numbers prove that about 20% of production this model year are 427 Convertibles. I chose to place this car before a wall advertising an early designed ad for Champion Spark Plugs as the colors work well together and this car is a real Champion." - Dana Forrester Prices starting at $100

Moneyville Exhibit Now Open

Each year during the winter/spring months the Museum hosts a special exhibit targeting school groups and families. This year's exhibit is Moneyville, presented by PNC Bank, offering a tour of money's many forms and functions with a lesson on how it has changed dramatically throughout history.

A recent study by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics reveals that many students are not learning the math they need in school.  That’s where Moneyville comes in.  “This exhibit makes learning cool,” said NCM Education Coordinator Kellie Steen.  “Whiz-bang computer games, a multitude of video screens, and eye-popping graphics engage kids (and adults) in a variety of hands-on activities that show them that using math is fun.”

The temporary exhibit joins the Museum’s existing hands-on educational displays, including the interactive driving simulators and new KidZone.  “Visitors to the Museum will get to see our 70+ Corvettes on display; spend time in our KidZone with Pat’s Super Service Center, assembly line and drive-in movie; and take our simulators out for a test drive in addition to this special exhibit.  It’s like two Museums in one,” Steen added.

PNC Bank will be providing a number of educational opportunities for children and adults in conjunction with the exhibit, including a Moneyville Camp March 7-8. MONEYVILLE was produced and is toured by the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.  The exhibit was made possibly with funds provided by the National Science Foundation.  MONEYOPOLIS is a registered trademark of Ernst & Young. The MONEYVILLE trademark is used under license.
