When the Queen City Corvette Club of Charlotte, NC decided to become a member of the “One Acre Club” for the Motorsports Park, the initial fund drive didn’t produce the desired results. "We had sign-up sheets at the sign-in desk of our monthly meetings but only the most dedicated supporters committed to the drive," said club Ambassador, Paul Mariano.
The commitments stalled out at approximately $5,000. Considering the possibility that some members were reluctant to publicly display the amount they would like to donate, the board decided to pass out pledge cards to the members when they signed in to keep their donation amounts private.
"Amazingly, we surpassed our goal of $15,000.00 at the first meeting. Of course, we still have to collect all the pledges, but we anticipate the required amount will be exceeded by a safe margin," Paul added.
To help other clubs and groups keep the momentum going with fundraising efforts, Paul had the idea for NCM to create and distribute a "thermometer" to track fundraising efforts - and to make the thermometer actually be the Motorsports Park's road course, sectioned off in increments.
