2nd Kentucky 1-Lap Trip Added!

Our Museum in Motion 1-Lap of Kentucky trip was so popular we've added a SECOND trip!

This excursion is exactly the same as the first, but will be October 9-13, 2012.

The tour moves eastward through Kentucky, visiting Berea, a center of Kentucky Artisan and Craft skills then travel will east and south along the Country Music Highway and include a visit to Trooper Island; Chevrolet, Kentucky; Big South Fork Scenic Railway; Cumberland Falls; and several scenic state parks.  As always the tour will be led by a Kentucky State Trooper, now using a marked red Corvette which is sure to attract attention as the caravan travels through an area of real Americana.

Trip registration is $875 for the primary registrant and $400 for the passenger. Learn more about the event and register online here.

Bench Fund Established for April Kauffman

The enthusiasm of one woman is what got the Museum's American Warrior Recognition event off the ground. Having served on the board of the Red Cross, April Kauffman (also a radio host, party planner and patriot) had seen the struggles first-hand of those who were wounded and had a passion for helping those who serve in the military.

She participated in a Museum R8C Delivery September 2009 with her husband, Dr. Jim Kauffman, taking delivery of a 2010 Torch Red Convertible. It was then that an idea started brewing - that the Museum could serve as "a great place to bring wounded warriors to uplift their spirits."

With April's encouragement, the help of Clay Lewis, a Vietnam vet and former Exxon Mobil employee, and Museum Executive Director Wendell Strode - to date we have hosted five events for wounded warriors.

Sadly, April Kauffman was murdered at her home on May 10. "She was the most selfless person I have ever known," said Strode. "She was always doing things for others, especially veterans. Will miss you April. It was always a joy and a blessing to be with you."

Contributions to April's bench can be made via phone to Megan Meredith at the Museum at 270-467-8836 or mailed to Megan (please put the name of the fund in the memo of the check) at 350 Corvette Drive, Bowling Green, KY 42101.

NCRS Delivers Documents

K.C. Strawmyre of the NCRS and his daughter Ellen, delivered 18 boxes of hard copy records and DVDs to the NCM Library and Archives. "It's a lot of material and it's going to take a long time to go through all of it," K.C. said as he surveyed all of the boxes he’d just unloaded. "We are so glad to do it."

“It is a great day for the Corvette community,” said Betty Hardison, NCM Library and Archives Coordinator. “ The final shipment of NCRS documents have been delivered.  We now have the privilege of going through each box, sheet by sheet, to see what we have and index the documents for accessibility for our enthusiasts.”

“We hope that the generous donation of the NCRS will inspire each individual to start cleaning out those attics, basements and garages and get those documents to the Library & Archives of the National Corvette Museum for the preservation of Corvette history.”
