Each week we like to spotlight a few members of our One Acre Club - a fundraising campaign for the Motorsports Park where individuals, clubs and businesses can sponsor an acre of land at the Park. Thus far we have 146 acres committed, with 184 available for the initial construction of the Park. This means only 38 acre sponsorships remain! Get yours before they are gone!
Bruce and Mary Wentzel have been heavily involved with the National Corvette Museum and are both Founding Members and Lifetime Members. They have also been members of the Corvette Club of Michigan since the early 1980s. This club competes in various events from March until October. The Wentzel’s have six Corvettes that have taken many Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Championships and competed in Michigan Region events and National Council of Corvette Club (NCCC) events from Florida to California. They autocross and have run track events for many years and look forward to participating in future events at the Motorsports Park. They say the facility will open up lots of opportunities for individuals as well as clubs.
The Corvette is what brought Bruce and Mary together, which is one of the many factors that contributed to their support of the new facility. They are so excited about the development of the Motorsports Park and believe it will open up a chance for those who want to enjoy their Corvette or other vehicle and seek performance driving in a safe environment. “We hope that others will take this opportunity to give back to the National Corvette Museum what it has given to all of us. What better way to show your appreciation than to support the Motorsports Park.”
Judy Forshee purchased her first Corvette, a 2004 C5 Corvette coupe, just prior to her retirement from the US Army in 2006. “When I started the car and felt the rumble of the engine as I sat in the driver seat, I instantly fell in love with the Corvette.” After she purchased the car, she decided to become a member of the Corvette Museum and purchased an annual membership, and soon decided to become a lifetime member. She traded in her 2004 coupe for a C6 Corvette in 2007 and kept that car longer than she had kept any car since 1988. Though most people Judy knows only drive their Corvette on special occasions, she felt every day was special and always drove it. In 2011, she traded in her 2007 C6 for a 2012 Sunburst Orange Metallic Grand Sport with a six speed manual transmission that made the driving experience even more fun.
When she received information in the mail about the Motorsports Park that the Corvette Museum was planning to build, Judy became immediately interested in the project. Judy says, “My plan was to make a contribution but as I read more I realized that it would feel great to 'own' a little piece of the park and again to have a chance to help the museum to remain a successful part of American History. Can’t wait to have the opportunity to drive my Corvette at the new Motorsports Park!”
Bill Brasher fell in love with Corvette when he saw the first one in 1955 and purchased one about 6 years later. His children and grandchildren still talk about the ’61 Vette. The family sold the Corvette for a station wagon because they were expecting a baby. Their oldest child once made the statement that they should have put him in the trunk and not sold the Corvette. Bill says being part of the Corvette family and the Mid Alabama Corvette Club (MACC) has been and continues to be a great experience that he feels increases his family.
Bill is extremely involved with the National Corvette Museum and uses his position as Newsletter Editor, along with their Ambassador, for the MACC to spread the word about the museum and increase the knowledge base of Corvette owners. When he came for the delivery of his 2012 Grand Sport at the NCM, he found out more about the Motorsports Park and knew he wanted to join the One Acre Club. “I wanted to be part of the ongoing growth of the Museum and the Park, and help in any way I can.” His life is now full of experiences that used to be just in his dreams. One of these dreams that became a reality for Bill is winning a trophy at the World of Wheels with a great Vette.
