Will Power's IndyCar Pits in Bowling Green

Chevrolet returned to IndyCar racing as a manufacturer in 2012 winning the Series’ Manufacturers title with 11 wins in the 15-race season. Ryan Hunter-Reay took the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series driver’s championship piloting the No. 28 Team DHL/Sun Drop Citrus Soda Andretti Autosport Chevrolet to victory. Close behind came Will Power who  finished second in the series in his Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet.

Today, the #12 Will Power car came through Bowling Green to take a pit stop at the National Corvette Museum.  While Will wasn’t here the team was glad to park the car in front of the National Corvette Museum to show their Chevy pride and promote IndyCar racing.

For kids attending the Moneyville Camp, it was a fun bonus to their adventure.

The next IndyCar race is the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 24, 2013.

San Jacinto Corvette Club Joins One Acre Club

The San Jacinto Corvette Club, founded in 1957, is the oldest Corvette club in Texas and the third oldest in the country. The SJCC is a Lifetime Business Member of the National Corvette Museum and its members have been very active with the Museum since the grand opening of the facility in 1994. Members have participated in multiple National Caravan events, the R8C Delivery program, have purchased various bricks and benches, and they even hosted their club’s 50th Anniversary event at the Museum.

“When I heard of the plans for a race track facility at the National Corvette Museum and the “One Acre Club”, I immediately recognized the potential for the Museum and another way to support them,” said Ken Bakenhus, NCM Ambassador for the SJCC.  “The SJCC Board of Directors unanimously approved becoming a One Acre Club member and plan to take advantage of the track time option contribution.”

Bakenhus goes on to say, “Some may say the track facility will only benefit the racing enthusiast. I see the track as another asset that the NCM can use in marketing the Museum, the Corvette AND Bowling Green. By holding performance driver education events and new Corvette owner driver training, the possibility of GM and other racing teams utilizing the facility for practice will not only generate direct income for the Museum, but will also provide exposure for new membership.  Whether you own your Corvette for a Sunday afternoon drive, car shows, restoring or for racing, we all benefit by supporting the NCM in any way we can. Bowling Green and the National Corvette Museum are the home of the Corvette, the one place we all can meet and enjoy what we all have in common, THE CORVETTE.”

See Two C7 Show Cars at Bash

The last weekend of April has historically been the 'official' kick off for Corvette event season at the Museum. Our annual Bash event is known to bring the VIPs out in full force, and this year we will have several VICs (very important Corvettes)!

According to NCM Events Manager, Roc Linkov, we will have not one, but two C7 show cars at the Bash... both a coupe and a convertible. Additionally, it is quite likely that one will be one of the new colors.

"The Museum is not only a place for history, it's also a place where history is made," said Roc. "Our Events Department works hard to bring special touches to everything we plan, and the Bash is no exception. Representatives from GM will be on site to share with you the excitement of the C7, answer questions - and hear your feedback."

Bash pre-registration closes in just over a month so if you haven't signed up yet there's still time. Check out the complete agenda online here.

NCM Announces New Roles for Staff

Your Museum is doing some shifting around, and some familiar names and faces will be doing new things!

Former Delivery Department Manager, Gary Cockriel, is transitioning over to the Development Department. In this new role Gary will be on the road a lot, attending shows and events, networking with you folks, visiting clubs and creating awareness of the Museum and Motorsports Park. Of course, if you want to give Gary a donation for the Museum we will take it!

Assuming Gary's role as Delivery Manager is Lori Bieschke. Lori started at the Museum in November of 2005 as an Assistant in the Delivery Department, so those who have participated in our Delivery programs know Lori (or "Snake" as she is nick-named) quite well. Lori is a Corvette enthusiast and currently owns a 2013 Coupe.

Roc Linkov currently wears two hats for the Museum. Many of you know Roc as our Events Manager, but more recently he has taken on the role of Motorsports Park Project Manager. Roc has been working with the track designer, engineering firm and many others to keep the project moving along.
