Jim Harbaugh to Pace Indy 500 in 2014 Corvette Stingray

Jim Harbaugh, head coach of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers, will drive the all-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Pace Car to lead the pack of 33 racers to the start of the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 this Sunday.

Harbaugh, who took the 49ers to the Super Bowl this year, is no stranger to Indianapolis - serving as a quarterback for the Colts NFL team 1994-1997.

Harbaugh is also a racing fan and a principal at Panther Racing, which fields the two-car, Chevrolet-powered IndyCar team including the No. 4 National Guard Chevrolet and the No. 60 Sunoco "Turbo" Chevrolet.

Harbaugh is also no stranger to Bowling Green, KY. His dad, Jack Harbaugh, served as head coach for the Western Kentucky University Hilltopper football team, and Jim served as an assistant coach for WKU from 1994-2001 while still playing in the NFL.

Harbaugh's stint behind the wheel of the Laguna Blue Pace Car marks a record 12th time the Corvette has served in the role, starting in 1978.

Corvette Hall of Fame Nominations Sought

Do you know a Corvette enthusiast, racing champ or GM/Chevrolet employee who contributed significantly to the Corvette hobby, development of the car or success at the track? Each year the Museum inducts a number of individuals into the Corvette Hall of Fame as a way of recognizing and celebrating their achievements.

To be considered for the 2014 Hall of Fame, nominations must be received by July 31, 2013. Only NCM members may make nominations, and qualified nominations are good for a three-year period.

One Acre Club Features: Circle City Corvette Club of Indiana and The Groves

Fundraising for our Motorsports Park project has kicked into high gear! Here are two more members of the One Acre Club!

The Circle City Corvette Club was established in September of 1977 and has been part of the National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) since its inception as well as lifetime members of the NCM. Throughout the year, the club is involved in car shows, parades, club drive and dines, NCCC speed events or rallies,  fundraising events and trips around Indiana and one or two trips during the year to other states.

Each spring, their kickoff event has been an overnight trip to the National Corvette Museum.  During this trip, members help the museum staff with projects that need attention.  Over the years, members have dusted the cars, disassembled and reassembled lifts, cleared brush, cleaned windows, cleaned mortar off the Flint bricks, and much more.

The club decision to become part of the One Acre Club was made in May of 2011 after a trip to the NCM (Bash) Winner's Circle Banquet and hearing the speech from Doug Fehan.  “ You would have to hear him speak to understand how he can inspire you,” says Steve Blunk, Circle City Corvette Club ambassador to the NCM.  After hearing Doug speak, Steve carried the message back to the club and one person at a time came forward with money until a member offered to match everything the others had donated. In November 2012, the Circle City Corvette Club joined the One Acre Club.

The goal of the club has remained the same throughout the years; to further the interest in the Corvette, enjoy their cars, make friends and have fun.

Ron Grove’s passion for cars and auto racing began when he was a young boy. Model kit cars were eventually replaced with a ’55 Chevy when he was fourteen and he spent the next couple years fixing it up till he was legal to drive. Forty-five years later he still has this car! Being young in the ‘60s and early ‘70s was a great time for muscle cars and auto racing. Corvettes were a dream back then, but he always knew that he would have one someday. That ‘someday’ came when he spotted a ’78 Silver Anniversary off to the side of a used car lot. The whole car needed a lot of work . . . it was perfect!   Several years later while attending a local Corvette show, a photographer/editor approached Ron about his car. The Corvette was now of show quality to be featured inside an issue of “Corvette Enthusiast” magazine doing a tribute to the Silver Anniversary.  Ron joined the National Corvette Museum in the early 90’s as a Founding Member and traveled 12 hours from Pennsylvania for the grand opening. He and his wife Jessica are Lifetime Members of the NCM as well as Duntov Society Members.

Recently they joined the Motorsports Park One Acre Club. “With Corvette Racing being a special part of our lives, it just makes sense to support the racing facility as part of the NCM . . . and to provide Corvette Racing an opportunity to test and practice on a track that they helped design is awesome. . . what a great destination! I encourage all NCM members to get involved with the Motorsports Park. No other sports car has a museum and racing facility that is supported by enthusiasts like the Corvette Museum. That is a tribute to the Corvette passion in all of us . . .so jump in!”

Ron and Jessica foresee a Museum Delivery of a C7 in the near future! “Just another item on my Corvette bucket list!”

We are just $123,000 short of our $1 million goal! You can help us reach it by June 1st by making a secure online donation here.
