In celebration of Military Appreciation Month and Veteran's Day we would like to spotlight Corvette Clubs that do special things to honor veterans. Submit your club by replying to this email!
This week we recognize North Shore Corvettes of MA. In 2004 Ron Morneau, a member of the club, the Senior Vice Commander of the Second Corps Cadets and a member of the Centennial Legion of the Historical Military Commands had an idea to put together an event that would show America's sport car's support for America's patriots. The idea was to travel to their Veterans' hospital for a car show, and to help the patients with comfort and personal care items. The first years' event had 25 cars and raised $2,700 in cash and items for the Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA.
The event has grown ever since, with 334 Corvettes in 2012 (in the rain) and $55,000 in cash and items collected. Activities during the event include a Friday night meet & greet, Saturday night banquet, then the main event on Sunday - a caravan to the hospital (where patients from three other hospitals have been bused in by Hanscom Air Force Base), color guard presentation and anthem singing, pledge by Gold Star Mothers, taps, keynote speaker, live music, car show and camaraderie.
The event is free, but they ask that participants bring a "goodie bag" of items to donate, and of course monetary donations are welcome, too!
