2014 Corvette Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Each year the National Corvette Museum inducts individuals who have made significant contributions to Corvette in the categories of GM/Chevrolet, Enthusiast/Historian and Racing. We are pleased to announce the slate of inductees for 2014!

Jerry Burton served as Founding Editor and Editorial Director of Corvette Quarterly magazine; Motorsports Editor for AutoWeek and editor and contributor to numerous other automotive publications. As a historian, he authored "Zora Arkus-Duntov: The Legend Behind Corvette," and "Corvette: America's Sports Car: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow." He is the author of the award-winning "Heartbeat of America" themeline for Chevrolet and served as a Member of the NCM's Board of Directors.

John Heinricy's likeness is a permanent fixture of the Museum as a statue with the 1989 Corvette ZR-1 "Record Run" display, an exhibit that pays homage to the team that set 12 international world time/distance speed records averaging as high as 175mph over a 24-hour period. He has won 11 SCCA national championships driving a Corvette and as Corvette Assistant Chief Engineer was responsible for the C4 through 1996, including the 1995 Pace Car, 1996 Grand Sport and Collector's Edition.

Dave MacDonald was a rising star on the race scene, trading driving duties with Dick Thompson in the "Biography of a Sports Car" national ad campaign for the 1963 Stingray and recognized as one of the top two Corvette drivers by Zora Duntov. As a driver during the glory days of Corvette Racing, MacDonald had a better win percentage than any other Corvette racer with 47 victories and 69 top three finishes in 110 career starts. Unfortunately General Motors pulled out of the factory-supported racing, and MacDonald went to drive professionally for Cobra - but he continued to drive his beloved 1963 Stingray personally. Though he finised 10th at the Daytona 500, his life was cut short at the Indy 500.

Read more about each of our inductees online here. Join us for our Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Thursday, August 28 during the Museum's 20th Anniversary Celebration.

Richard Anderson's Race Car Joins NCM Fleet

Richard Anderson's #33 race car started life as a 1972 Corvette frame and took to the track in 1973. Its accolades include once holding the track record at Palm Beach International Raceway, a 1978 SCCA Southeast Regional Champion and more recently placed 3rd at Road America's Vintage Car Race in celebration of Chevrolet's 100th Anniversary in 2011.

Anderson wanted to give the car a good home where it would be respected and people would be wowed. "You think about things as you move on in life... how you're not going to be here forever. The more I thought about selling it - I asked myself, 'what's that going to do for me?' Sharing it with people and letting them see what it was like made more sense... there's so much history."

Another factor for Anderson was the construction of the NCM Motorsports Park and that this car is very drivable for parade laps, rides around the track, etc. "I gave Harlan Charles a ride at the NCM HPDE at Autobahn and he was like, 'Wow, how did you guys ever race these things?'" Anderson added that this is an ideal vehicle for the track and the timing was just right, "You should have some of these types of things around."

Anderson’s #33 Corvette racer can be seen at the National Corvette Museum, open daily from 8am-5pm CT. Additionally, the Museum’s Motorsports Park is slated to open late August 2014 with visitors being given the opportunity to ride in the vintage racer around the track during special events.

Paving the Way of the Motorsports Park!

Thanks to several of you, we have 1,470 tons of asphalt for our carousel funded! You can help sponsor a ton for only $100 online here. Remember: we need a total of 6,822 tons to construct the carousel!

We also would like to thank NCM Fighter Squadron for contributing $1160 towards our MSP web cams, and Randall Shinn for contributing $1000. We're just $3,840 away from installing them!

We're Thankful for YOU!

Military Appreciation Spotlight: Corvette Club of Kansas City

"The Corvette Club of Kansas City has supported Great American Stand Down for homeless or needy vets for the past two years as our Club Charity. Each month we collect new and usable clothing, outerwear and other items, as well as raising money to present to the organization to help them distribute and buy additional items as needed. In November 2012 we presented a check for $5000 and last week for 2013 we presented a check for $8000. Vets are able to acquire clothing and other items they need, or receive advice, support and even a haircut to raise their spirits and self esteem. We can't do enough for these men and women who have stood for this country and our freedoms."

- Jim Clyde CCKC Ambassador

Military Appreciation Spotlight: Corvette Atlanta

"For over 25 years Corvette Atlanta has had the honor of leading the Atlanta Annual Veterans Day Parade carrying the dignitaries through downtown Atlanta to the reviewing stand at Centennial Park. This parade continues to grow and prosper with 4,500 participants from the many organizations entered this year. Korean War Veterans received special recognition this year and contributed to the great turnout of those veterans, some of whom rode in our Corvettes to their delight. We all look forward to finding out who will be riding with us each year and usually meet an interesting and personable rider from various military and government organizations and backgrounds. As the parade participation grew over the years, we invited another local Corvette club, Classic Glass Corvette Club, to help us provide the 25-30 Corvettes needed to support this patriotic and gratifying event. Our joint collaboration has fostered a warm relationship between our clubs and participation in each others’ activities during the year. In his letter of appreciation to us, the parade committee president remarked: 'I don’t know what our volunteers and attendees would think if we had any other type of vehicle carry our VIPs!'"
